I took apart my 770 today to find out what's on the inside, and then the left, right, and select button stopped working. No biggie, I had the extended service plan from Compusa, I'll just save myself the hassle of taking it back apart...little do I know that I'd have to rebuy the service plan again for the new one...I was pissed.

Anyhow, I got a new one and I was happy...until I saw that the two little covers that go over the top left and top right coners were missing. Back to being pissed...refurb or manufacturing mistake?

what are those covers for?
are they covering screws?
probably is a refirb. If so you should take it back and get it exchanged or at least have them cut you a significant deal.

PS I'm also a compulsive take-apart-er.
Though I've resisted the temptation with the 770.
I just got a new mouse today, and already I found myself opening the thing a few minutes ago.

mannn I thought I was the only nut case that did that...I have taken apart EVERYthing I own at least once...and I stress at least. Anyhow, yeah...I don't know if I'm going to keep it, I might just exchange it right off the bat.
