Any chance we will see a Usenet newsgroup reader for OS2008?

- no... i would love to have tin, trn, or slrn... however, USENET access can cost $$$ (anyone know of free access *other* than Gººgle Groups?)...

- the port should be straightforward - the problem may be the sucky term emulation in os2008's osso-xterm (a definite *downgrade* from os2007's, IMHO)...

I use Giganews myself, but it is a pay service.

You might try this site:

pan was running under OS2007. Its great, similar to Agent on Windows.

I don't know why we don't hear about it now.

I remember having used PAN on my 770. PAN is an offline news reader which someone ported to the 770.
Dunno if there is a version for 0S2008.
The nice side of PAN is its flexibility, the bad sides are the bloated menues and dialog boxes.
Ah, and PAN didn't autoconnect. You had to manually open a WLAN connection...

Pan is listed in my application manager, but it won't install. Anyone know how to get it working?

Pan installed on my N800 with 2008 and works. Install via xTerm apt-get install pan.

I'm glad to hear there's a way to get Pan working. I wonder if something similar for xchat, something else that was left behind.

This didn't work for me. Here is the message I got:

/home/user # apt-get install pan
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree... Done
Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.

Since you only requested a single operation it is extremely likely that
the package is simply not installable and a bug report against
that package should be filed.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
pan: Depends: hildon-libs0 (>= 0.12.17-1) but it is not going to be installed
E: Broken packages
/home/user #

Any suggestions?
