I recently purchased an N800 open box unit. It had OS2007.26-8 on it. It did not have the Nokia 128MB card with the unit. I have tried more than 12 different SD cards in both the internal and external slots but none of them are accessible in file manager. I flashed to OS2008.51-3 but the problem is still there. None of the SD cards show up in File Manager. If I insert a MMC card, they are detected but file manager states the card is improperly formatted or corrupt. The repair option in File Manager fails to correct the problem and if I try to format the MMC card the formatting progress bar is displayed for 10 to 20 seconds but never indicates any progress before it disappears. Afterward the File Manager still warns that the MMC card is improperly formatted or corrupt. I have successfully formatted all the cards to FAT32 on both a Linux and Windows computer but my N800 still will not detect the SD cards and the MMC cards still cause an error message. I believe there is a problem with the N800 hardware because none of the cards can be read but at least the MMC cards are being detected. The cards vary in size from 64MB to 4GB and come from various manufacturers (SanDisk, Panasonic, Hama, A-Data, Generic). I even went to a local Nokia shop to get a Nokia SD card but they didn't have any. Has anyone run into a similar problem?

It's broken, return it if you can. There is a reason it was open-box.... Where did you buy it from? It's quite amazing they take back a broken device and then turn around and sell it again - still broken!

eBay of course. The seller assured me the N800 was working perfectly.

Of course he did. It's hard to sell a broken device, if the buyer knows it's broken.

Muroga, Do you have the results if you try an MMC card in either of the slots?

Last resort, http://panasonic.jp/support/global/c...formatter.html,
got to use the low level formatting, not the quick one, the one that takes 20+min, other options does not matter.

Tried the Panasonic formatter with a 64MB Panasonic SD card and still doesn't work. Also purchased a new 1GB RS-MMC card and it doesn't work either. Tried every OS2007 and OS2008 version for the N800 as well. No SD card is recognized no matter what I try. MMC cards give the "incorrectly formatted or corrupt.." error. Repair or formatting with the N800 doesn't correct the error with the MMC cards either. When I contacted Nokia, I got the same line about only using Nokia branded cards. They wanted me to buy a Nokia card and try it before they would agree the N800 was defective.
