What is my understanding Skype is NOT installed in the tablets by default. Only the "shortcut to install" is there, which you did discover already.

Can you open Application Manager and check if the "Maemo Extras" repository is disabled? (I recall that it is disabled by default, for some reason?) If you enable it, refresh application list, and then try installing Skype again. (Maemo Extras have lots of applications and libraries that Skype may have dependencies.)

Hope this helps...

Ok now do this.

Go to that gronmayer link which i posted earlier. Select os2008 and in the search type libhildonfm2. You will again get a green install button. Install that and do the same for the other one. then refresh application list and try. It should work.

Mara is correct above. The application isn't installed prior to point of sale; that is just a link for installation from a web repository.

Sachin's suggestion *should* work for you.

Application manager > Menu > tools > application catalog > there should be maemo extras click that > edit > Untick the disable and Ok > refresh application list.

Then install skype from the icon'

Amazing community here. thanks guys. I'm encouraged by it. but frustrated with this gadget. so much promise, but this is frustrating. have done all the refresh processes, searched and found those two packages (chose to 'open' rather than 'save' in application manager - and was bidded to refresh list, so I take it that the missing packages came on board. But now a new error message and warning tone comes up: "unable to install. software contains updates to packages installed froma different source and is likely to harm the system. Contact software author."
