Why does it seem so frackin hard to update or install ANY apps. on here ??

This shouldn't have to be a half hour or all day task just to get new apps on your tablet, seriously !

I've un-installed the last ver. of Xournal as it told me un-able to update, fine, fine I'll delete old ver. and start anew WRONG, even after red pill mode to get rid of all the "old/bad" repos and still tells me un-able to install.

What's next a clean install of OS2008 ?? Is what I had to do with a Canola "update"

Canola started clean. They work on that and they took their time to have everything in place.

I started from scratch and I had not right to upload to maemo extras when I released 0.4.1

This time I did it clean.
I am sorry it is so hard to upgrade from 0.4.1 to 0.4.2.1.

Unfortunately you have got to do it from the terminal.
I don't think Application Manager even in red-pill mode can substitute the dpkg command in fixing this.

Gosh dang it, battery died in the middle off my post, Frack !!

I did finally get it to work after 3-4 install updates, and in and out of red pill mode, as I'm still not really comfortable with x-term and command line stuff. So far I think I've noow got it installed and running.

So what I initially thought abouut 5-10 mins to just update my ver. took almost 3 hours and a battery pack.

One would think on how far wwe've come with the maemo platform that they could AT LEAST get installing and upgrading apps & repos a heck of alot better then where we are currently at.

I'll give em that they aren't MS or Apple or other mobile platforms, but to try to install 1 app or upgrade of one should 't take a Bachelor's degree in computers and have the patience of a snail.

I do applaud you on aall your hardwork and trying to keep the maemo Xournal up with fixes, features and updates to keep uup with it's bigger "prob moore popular" big brother on liux disros from fourge.

So thanks again on another stellar port.

I too had issues with installation with previous versions -

Beating on it with apt-get (the recommendations from earlier today) finally got a clean install. Had the same gnome canvas issues...

    Now up and running! Thanks!

BTW - did notice a small bug when I tried to do a save.
It wouldnt let me create a new folder - but saving to an existing one on my external card worked.

Thanks Again - been waiting for this on os2008... was neat on my 770 (since given to son in college).

    You're more than welcome

About your bug, it's really weird.
I just tried on my tablet, and it works.

It's not related to Xournal tho, as I am using the Hildon File Manager framework and it takes care of everything and just gives back the selected filename.

What version are you using ?

I reming you we're at chinook4 in case you missed it.

I believe there is an error in the "Click to Install" link at Maemo.org for Xournal v0.4.2.1 updated 2008-04-18 10:22 UTC. The link points to Maemo Extras repository beginning with htto:// rather than http:// This not only breaks the install process for Xournal, but installs a repository in the list that cannot be read which in turn breaks the apt-get update process on my tablet (using command line or Application Manager program.)

PS--scanned the last few pages of this thread to make sure this is "news," but my appologies if this has already been reported elsewhere.

Have your latest load (chinook4), latest official release of os2008, on a N800.

Agree its likely to be Hildon - selected new folder, typed in name...
never gave me an ungreyed ok button. Just sat there...

Oh well... its great to have it none the less!

Try also to run "apt-get install xournal" from the command line and see what does it say.
Ran 'apt-get -r libgnomecanvas' no problem, but
    Code:
    Nokia-N800-51-3:~# apt-get install xournal
    Reading package lists... Done
    Building dependency tree... Done
You might want to run `apt-get -f install' to correct these:
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
libgnomeprint2.2: Depends: libart-2.0 (>= 2.0.0) but it is not going to be installed
xournal: Depends: libgnomecanvas2-0 (>= 2.11.1) but it is not going to be installed
Depends: libgnomeprint2.2-0 (>= 2.12.1) but it is not going to be installed
Depends: poppler-utils but it is not going to be installed
E: Unmet dependencies. Try 'apt-get -f install' with no packages (or specify a solution).
