The maemo style guide, I'm fairly certain, suggests not having item-level icons on menu screens: certainly none of the built-in apps do.

Don't have a reference to hand, though.

I did not find any reference to item-level icons anywhere on the documentation.
Weird, but during lunch I've made up my mind and I will get rid of the icons in the menu.
Mnemonics and Accelerators are explicitly described in the Maemo documentation [1] so I will leave them.

I am trying to follow Maemo guidelines as much as possible, but the documentation itself is rather spread all over the place with some missing link (for example the "Customizing maemo user interface" HOWTO, explicity refers to a bunch of icons indexes that are not present at all).

I'd leave the images, if it doesn't forbid them... unless they are deemed a nuisance in portrait mode; I guess width might be getting tight there.

This is fairly Maemo/NIT specific. I don't think that this would be an issue with Xournal on the desktop or a full sized TabletPC since you have more real estate. But on the Nokia tablet, constantly having to hit the scrollbar to find where I was typing the text and to know when to line-break (because there is no wordwrap) was a pain when I was using Xournal to type out a document (mixed with diagrams and exported to a PDF :] ) the other day.
Maybe this is too much to ask, but even better would be implementiing Word-Wrap.

Hey Guys, please forgive me if this has been asked but I can't find an answer... I'd like to use Xournal with my iGo Stowaway BT keyboard and I can't for the life of me get the Enter/Return key to register a Return in Xournal (I keep having to use the Return key on my N810 keyboard). Am I missing something? Is there another key that would work as a Return? I've tried a few and even tried some key combinations but still can't get it to work.

Also just to be sure... When I say Return I'm meaning that when one is typing text and gets to the end of a line - Return acts to bring to the beginning of the next line.

    Thanks

Nope, Xournal has not yet been updated to Diablo.
I am working on it (I am also integrating some changes I made lately) and it's now available only on the Diablo Maemo extras-devel repository.

This repository is not intended for the final users.

When Xournal we'll be ready from prime time again, I'll promote it to maemo extras.
Until then, I won't make any promises of it functioning (in fact, it doesn't right now).

Uninstall this version, disable the Diablo Maemo extras-devel repository and re-install the chinook version.

When the diablo version starts to work fine again, I will announce it and after a period of beta-testing I will promote it for official release.

    thanks.

    Ok

I made a few improvements to Xournal:

    - localisation support (it_IT locale added)
    - auto save of documents, support for some hardware events

But it's not working yet, as you've noticed

At least you've experienced the automatic update notification feature
