I have created a xslt which transforms a FON POI gpx to something that can be used in GPXView. Handy if you need a FON spot to log your geocache founds...
Finally got a chance to go caching again at the weekend, family commitments and all that
It worked perfectly, much better than maemo-mapper for that final stretch.
And yet another very small but imho useful update: The goto view now has a small button linking to maemo-mapper. Clicking it will launch maemo-mapper if required and make it jump to the position you are currently navigating to in gpxview.
Isn't the result obvious? The only application you ever told about your bluetooth GPS is MM. And now you always have to start MM to enable to GPS. How should the framework or any other application start the GPS if only Maemo Mapper knows the required details like the BT MAC?
Unless Maemo-Mapper also works with a blank MAC address setting as desciibed here for the internal GPS:
it probably won't work with anything but Maemo-Mapper.
What's descibed there for the "internal GPS" applies to all GPS devices handled by the GPS framework. And only those work for gpxview as it only works with devices handled by the GPS framework.
Summary: If you can leave the MAC address entry in MM blank, the GPS should also work for gpxview as this indicates that your GPS framework is setup properly. If you need to specify some mac address for the GPS to work within MM, then GPS in gpxview won't work since you are bypassing the GPS framework and make MM directly access the GPS. This isn't good ...
Well, I'm a little slow (in more ways than one it seems) but I finally figured out what I was doing wrong. To save someone else the head scratching I went through:
Open control panel. Go to GPS location. Make sure 'Enable GPS' is checked, and your GPS is show in the GPS device pull down. Mine wasn't there, although I had paired with the device.
The geocaching.com gpx file has a name itself. This is displayed in the first screen. Your file does not contain such an entry, so you see blank followed by a 1 for "this file contains one cache". And this single cache is what you see on the next page. The current development version already copes with files wihtout name inside and sets the filename then.
Don't put too much effort into this. Adding support for loc files is most likely the easier solution. Also the current development version can handle entire directories. So you can put all your loc files there and they are loaded all at once.

If I download a pocket-query .gpx file and load it into gpxview, it finds 1, or 3, geo's out of the whole file (the two different files I've tried). Will you be adding support for multiple-cache .gpx files? That's something that maemo-mapper also doesn't support and it's a tremendous bummer. I could send a sample file if it would be of help.

All caches contained in your gpx file should be displayed. Yes, please send me these files, so i can have a look why parts aren't displayed.
Just wanted to say that I used this App for the first time this weekend to pick up a couple of caches hidden in long grass and woodland.
The application works extremely well, thank you very much indeed!
One tiny thing, which I note has already been mentioned, is some kind of "averaging" for the compass rose to bring some stability, or an option to lock the compass rose in a single position.
I've been using this since I first saw the release. Much better then my previous N800 caching system.
One feature request.
Could the cache listing automatically refresh, perhaps every 30 seconds or so? It's great that it sorts by nearest to me, but I have to navigate up a level, and then back to get it to reorder the caches while I am moving.

Done! The latest version does exyctly this if you don't touch the cache list view for at least 30 seconds.
This time you'll get another set of features requested by users. This especially includes the ability to export caches as POIs to Maemo-Mapper (thus doing something similar to geopoi). To keep Maemo Mapper fast, you can limit the radius from which POIs are exported around your current position. And of course matching icons are also generated so you see your familiar cache icons in Maemo Mapper.
Error handling and especially reporting has also been improved and loading illegal GPX files is now not just silently ignored.
I have added some configurable averaging/damping to the compass, so it should be a little more stable with the n810s built-in gps. If you don't like the compass moving at all, you can now just touch it and it'll lock in it's current position (with the needle still moving of course ...). This is useful if you also use a real compass.
Copy'n paste also works in html text now, so you can copy things from the html description to the notes page to e.g. do some caluculations.
