I'm probably one of the least technically inclined people who regularly reads these forums. My n800 has been my into to Linux (along with an Ubuntu distro on my laptop). I can assure you that I have no idea how to do the techie tricks that you refer to. I don't even know what they do or why I'd want to do them.

I have reflashed my n800 a couple times. Mostly because I found it a convenient way of getting rid of a bunch of apps that I'd tried and decided I didn't need.

The tablets aren't exactly super intuitive or 100% user friendly, but it seems like the general consensus is that they are fairly stable and reliable. And that's been my experience as well.

I've found OS2008 far more unreliable than 2007. Periodically I will get lockups because of input bugs but I can still hold the power button down and get it to power off. I never had problems like this with 2007. I hope we get some bug fixes soon.

On a different tack, maybe there is something wrong with something you are backing up that causes things to go bad? I have an 810 and haven't had anything like that trouble with mine. I have only reflashed once, to get the machine to use the internal memory card as its boot device. Other than that, well, it runs out of power occasionally and that is about all that makes it need a reboot.
I have issues with the software, but I think the hardware is great.

It is not the internal memory bug is it?

Hey,

Really. I've been looking at this forum for a while, and I thought my experience was common. I see a lot of posts about boot screen lockups, and I just figured that it was the normal mode of operation.

I'll contact Nokia and see if I can get this swapped out. It does seem extreme, but like I said, the posts that I've searched seemed like it was a normal occurence. I'll post back with the process/progress.

Thanks for hearing my complaints. I really do want to love the N810. :-)

Well, very few of these issues are as severe as yours, and you have to realize that forums like these are self-selecting samples that are heavily biased towards people with problems—you don't get a lot of people dropping by to say "Hey, it works great!". They've shipped hundreds of thousands of these things, you can be sure the response rate for an issue like this would be a little higher than it is if it were actually "normal".

Hi;

Perhaps even more than hundreds of thousands:

http://sramanamitra.com/2007/08/08/i...etitors-nokia/

"...Nokia’s total mobile device shipments with 29% year on year growth outpaced the industry, which grew at 14%. In the convergence devices market, the space which the iPhone is targeted at, Nokia grew by 54% riding on shipments of 9 million Nseries and 2 million Eseries devices. In Q2 2007, Nokia accounted for more than 50% of the total convergence devices market...

,,, Nokia has long been selling mobile devices through three business groups, mobile phones (eg: Nokia 6300, Nokia 5200, and Nokia 5300), multimedia (eg: Nseries), and enterprise solutions (eg: Eseries). ... "

I also saw this - pretty interesting - I would like my N810 (or its successor) to also be my phone:

I do hope that when you contact Nokia and get a repaired/replaced unit that things will be better for you. While I agree with some of your sentiments about the overall stability of the OS and applications, I certainly have not had to re-flash frequently.

I hate to say it in this forum, but I also agree that for most of my friends and family, I would have to recommend the iPod Touch over the Nokia IT at this point. There is just way too steep of a learning curve to using and modifying the Nokia in order to get the "good stuff", like Canola, etc. As I have said in previous threads like this, the Nokia requires a certain amount of "care and feeding" in order to make a really great machine. If it wasn't for my habitual reading of this site and other Maemo-related blogs, I would never have known about some of the things that I now use on a regular basis, such as Canola, RTComm2, Iphone user agent for MicroB, Advanced Backlight Status Bar applet, OMWeather, and most recently, GarnetVM2. Most people just don't have the time or desire to keep on top of the latest developments for their devices....

Anyway, hope it is just a defective device and that you have better luck with its replacement. Please update this thread and share what happens after you send it to Nokia.
