When I plug in the adapter to the wall and the plug into the n800 it never seems to charge. Its really quite baffling. I have tried different outlets in the house and none seem to charge the n800. The charger worked the day before when I plug it into a surge protector at the library, but when I got home and plug it in it never charged.

I wonder if there is a way to take the battery out of the device and charge it some other way? Has anyone else ran into charge problems?

Do you have a voltage meter? I would try and test the charger to make sure it is really working. They sometimes have a fuse built into them to prevent damage to the item being charged. Perhaps the fuse is blown and therefore not sending any current. Although I really don't know if the Nokia has one or not - just trying to make helpful suggestions.

That might be the problem. We have been having power outages due to weather in my area. The power company turned the power for a matter of seconds then it went back out and I heard a loud BANG in the neighborhood. I think there was a surge of power. Does this power situation sound like it could ruin an adapter?

It sounds like a very possible scenerio. If it does in fact turn out to be the adapter and you have to end up replacing it (ie the fuse isn't servicable), make sure you stick with the Nokia OEM adapter.

I bent the end of the adapter (the end that plugs into the Nokia) and it isn't working well now. So I figured I would by something on E-Bay and save some money. I knew it was not going to be Nokia OEM, but I've never had a problem before with stuff like that.

To make a long story short - it doesn't work well. The plug seems to be slightly loose in the Nokia, and therefore will not charge the unit effectively.

So send the extra money and buy a Nokia branded adapter. I'm starting to look for another replacement myself now .

So I went out and got a new charger. It works like it should, so I guess it the old charger had a fuse blow out. I got for 24.99 at Micro Center, the in car charger was 14.99. The product has a list of devices it works with. It does not mention it works with the n800, but I have it right here and its working.

I flashed my n800 yesterday to the new DIABLO OS. All went well with the update. I happily played with the unit for a couple of hours with the new OS. However, since the update I can't get the n800 to recharge. There is no battery recharging indicator when I plug in the charger. I have tried removing the battery for an extended time period and no help. The battery life is almost used up now, so the unit is unusable at this point.

I have read other posts about blown fuses on the charger, etc. It seems highly coincidental that this would happen right after an upgrade. Could there be something else going on with the new OS rather than the charger blown fuse?

Well you might want to flash it back to OS 2008 before the battery runs out. Then see if it can charge. If it cant the it isnt the software.

Thanks Stevemcc. Sadly, I'm sure there's not enough juice left to flash back to the previous edition of OS 2008.

Today I ordered a usb charger, so maybe the fix is in the mail.

I too have noticed that after flashing to Diablo I have had a similar problem...N800 doesn't seem to hold a charge.

It got way better(subjective) after adjusting the WIFI settings dropping the power to 10mW and turning on the power saving.

I don't see how it could be Diablo. Why wouldn't all N800 owners have the same problem? I think it's more likely to be a battery problem.

When you say that the N800 won't hold a charge, are you saying something like "I charged it for eight hours without using it and it still shows only partly charged," or something like that?
