if I enter any 2 places into the form at www.gnuite.com/cgi-bin/gpx.cgi, the result contains a strange line at the end - -the very last trkpt line goes like this:
was that extra "garbage" recently added? Routes were working fine 2 days ago and i noticed yesterday i was getting parsing errors. Is there a way for the server to filter that out for us?
I'm curious why there isn't an "onboard" routing generator. Mapopolis on my old palm did it with hardware specs way way way below that of the N770.

Yes, Google just changed the output of their directions HTML, so I have to change the GPX Driving Directions web service to adjust.

Because Maemo Mapper doesn't have actual street data available to it - it just uses bitmap images, so unless you add code to OCR Google's fonts, it can't actually derive driving direction information.
The GPX Driving Directions web service is working again (i.e. not spewing invalid XML). Let me know if you have any further issues with the service.
Now is a good time to mention that, although I would like to roll the functionality of the web service into Maemo Mapper itself, there is a downside: future breakage caused when Google changes their HTML output would require me to release a new version of Maemo Mapper, instead of me just changing the web service. This would be less desirable, in my opinion. So I might keep the web service available for use by Maemo Mapper even after its functionality gets moved into Maemo Mapper, to give people a "fallback" that would allow them to revert to using the web service rather than upgrade their version of Maemo Mapper.
Not to look a gift horse in the mouth, but what would be nice:
- a small box in the lower corner stating distance left until final desintation.
- zoom presets, For example to go from level 4 to level 0 rather than all the subsequent zoom levels.
- a "reverse directions" checkbox to download the way back.
- a way to make a great cup of coffee...hehe
I'm sure people like me love this app so much that they would have no problems upgrading to a newer version.
btw, all those patches I see in the forum, like to add other gps data info onscreen, are they patches to the source or are they more like plugins? Plugins would be really cool.
gnuite,
have you seen this app? http://www.dcemu.co.uk/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=33068
can it generate usefull files for maemo mapper? I think it was made for te PSP GPS app but maybe it can still be useful to us. I especially like the POI db generation. And maybe a way to use hybrid maps.
Hey
Great application. Would it be possible to include an option to display some debug information ?
I.e. show your lat/long/elevation/speed/no. of satellites
My Holux GPSlim device is a bit wonky sometimes, it would be handy to know if it's some problem with the device itself or it's just a lack of satellites.

Somewhere in this thread is a post with a binary link that has gps info.
