Hi: Long time reader but first time poster. I'm a Mac user and have previously downloaded OS2008 updates successfully for my N800, but with Diablo what I get after manually downloading the .bin file from the tablets-dev.nokia.com site is something called a .bin.attachment file, which displays as an all text file when opened and is not shown in the 770 Flasher application that I would normally use to install it on the tablet. I've tried it with Safari, Firefox and even an old Internet Explorer, both in Leopard and Tiger. Most times it was .bin/attachment, but with Firefox it was an mpeg-1 file. Very strange. One more thing. I asked my friend, also an N800 Mac user with Tiger to try, and he got the exact same thing as me. Any ideas on what's happening here? Hopefully something easy to correct. Thanks a lot.

I used Firefox to download Diablo within Tiger. I noticed the file always saves with "," at the end of the .bin. I amend the file name by removing the comma and approve the extension change. Then open it via the 770 flasher. It will not show up in the flasher with the comma.

On my mac (where finder is configured to display file extensions), the firmware file downloads as .bin.txt

I just renamed the file to .bin (removing the .txt) and everything is back to normal. Please note that "apple i" will show you file details in the finder. It is easier to rename it this way.

No problem on a Mac too. Noticed the comma at the end of the filename. I used the command line flasher and the upgrade went smooth.

Success! All of your advice worked beautifully. I downloaded Diablo again, although in Firefox this time and in Leopard. It was downloading with a "," at the end as before and when finished displayed as a .bin, mpeg-1 file. I did "Get Info" and changed the file to just .bin. and to open with Stuffit Expander (rather than Quicktime as displayed). That change put the comma back in the title, which I deleted again. Then when closing I confirmed I did want to keep it as .bin, and then the file on the desktop changed from Quicktime to a Stuffit .bin file. Everything worked fine after that; I just dragged and dropped it onto the 770 Flasher. I walked my friend through the process as well. His file came through as a .bin, attachment (which I also got yesterday and was like a txt file) after downloading with Safari in Leopard. So he just changed that to a .bin and left the open with alone (he had no options except none and other.) Then everything worked fine after dropping it onto the Flasher. So thanks again to mfortner, Jerome and Rider. I really appreciate you taking the time to answer and helping me figure this out. I'm glad the mac people are sticking together!
