I should be able to nail down the cost of the adapter soon. The door now is the only thing that is left and the manufacturer of the cover is trying to get more money now.
agreed. i carry around a 160gb USB OTG harddrive and a battery powered USB hub to be able to access it (it needs that extra 500 mA) so that I can take my movies and everything with me. hooking it all up on the bus is a bit of a pain. having 32 gigs on board would be pretty spectacular.
No, a (relatively) big usb-pen is not a very good solution, even if you get a good solid cable that doesn't need any fiddly "lesbie" adapters. A slim-profile SD adapter is the way to go. Looking forward to seeing how this project turns out.
or just buy a 32 gb (hopefully soon 64 gb) usb-pen. No need for extra power or anything...
As reputable 16GB flash drives have appeared and have started to slowly drop in price it's something I considered.
After setting up a test with a 4GB flash drive on my tablet it works fine but seems like a kludge, which is to say it's cumbersome for such a portable device.
I have the short Motorola micro-mini USB adapter and the one-piece mini-A female adapter and the result is still just sort of eight inches long with a Sandisk Cruzer micro stuck in the end of it!
I have my share of worries about the mechanical stresses hanging a lot of stuff on the micro USB port connector will incur over time in a portable environment as well, but that's me.
Think you could put a micro projector in there too?
Seriously, This would definitely make me think about upgrading from my N800... The lack of a full size SD slot was the biggest reason I didn't get an N810.
I am really looking forward to seeing the finished product.
