With the new 2006OS, my 770 wants to connect first to my neighbors unprotected wi-fi before it will find my protected and much stronger signaled network. I thought with the 2005OS I could set preferred network but can't seem to find that setting in 2006OS.

How can I make the 770 connect first to my own wi-fi network?

I'm surprised to see no responses to this thread. I was hoping 2006 would improve the behavior of the connection manager but in my mind it's far worse.

With 2005, connecting to my home access point (set as the default) was very fast, even though it's using WPA with a hidden SSID. Trying to connect in any other location threw an error and I'd have to select a connection. Now initiating any network access anywhere leads to prolonged searching for access points. It takes 30-40 seconds to get connected to my home access point - I might as well be making a dialup modem connection at that rate.

I'm not sure why this is so difficult to get right. A much better algorithm would be: use the last selected connection by default. If that one isn't available ask the user to select another access point.

I think the current behavior would work brilliantly in a situation where there is only one access point in each location. But I can see four from home and eight from work. If I let my Nokia connect automatically at home it generally connects to my neighbor's unencrypted access point before it will use mine.

Does anyone think the connection manager works better in 2006 than 2005? Maybe I'm missing the point.

Things are much improved after removing all the extraneous connections from the connection list - about 20 seconds to connect. Unfortunately my neighbors all have SSIDs like 'linksys' or 'default' and I sometimes need to connect to networks with those names. I'll just have to remember to remove them from the list if I use them.
