Yeah I looked for ZhongYi and found their website yesterday, but I couldn't see the device there.

I do like the maemo-like desktop WITHOUT the sidebar, always wondered why that's there when top/bottom seems more obvious, especially for browsing etc.

however, if this were out now it might mean something - june 09 means N9xx will be out too along with maemo 5 and its zippy 3d widgets etc. and will mkae this look rather dated.

I don't think we'll see the N9xx until then. Apparently Nokia does already have prototype devices, but the software is still at an early state.

We don't know that. All we know is that the released software (the new maemo SDK) is in a very early state, and that the next release of software (the beta SDK) won't be for a few months.

My feeling is that they've got something running on their prototypes, but it is buggy and full of hacks and workarounds that they wouldn't want the public to see. The next device is supposed to be far more "mainstream," so I think they're aiming for a great deal of polish on Fremantle, which means far more rigorous testing before release.

I thought someone popped in here (Peter Maemo marketing ?)and said they had finally had hardware proto's over at Nokia and were developing using those?

Yes someone let it slip that there are working prototype devices inside Nokia that look consumer-ready.
