I have a Motorola Q that I am trying to use with my 770 to get internet connectivity using the Q's EVDO connection. I use the Q via bluetooth dun with my laptop, but I cannot get the Q and the 770 to connect. I paired the devices and made a connection called Q, and I am very sure that I did everything right (at least I think I did). The pairing went fine and the "phone" is in the 770 and the "connection" is there too with all the proper settings (which is just #777 and no username or password).

When I try to connect by hitting the icon for my connection called "Q", the 770 almost immediately gives an error message "Cannot Connect" and I can see in connection manager when I watch the status that the 770 drops the Q (or vice-versa) immediately. I know that the two at least see each other because I can toggle a setting on my Q that says "allow connection" and if I disable that setting the Q asks if the 770 can connect. This proves that the answer is not the BT DUN because it works flawlessly with my laptop.

There must be some issue between the 770 and WM 5.0. On my laptop, the bluetooth modem is over the virtual port com 16. Does that have something to do with it? Is there any other setting on the 770 that I need to make (e.g., proxy, etc.).

I am at a loss so any help would be appreciated.

Hmm ... I remember when peering my i-mate SP5m to my i-Blue GPS that there had to be an incoming and outgoing com port configured to work properly. Peering with the 770 doesn't talk over COM ports though.

When you set up your connection, do you use "packet data" or "data call" as a connection type? Do you have your access point accurate? How do you tell your laptop to "dial in" to your internet provider?

Thanks for your reply.

I used "packet data" and there is no setting for an access point.

None of the posts I have read on the net say anything about using an access point for a connection with Verizon's evdo network.

puzzling?
