What Was The Benefit of Downloading The Latest OS2008 Update? Is it faster? I don't really see a difference.

Your tablet stops flashing that orange exclamation point at you all the time.

The most interesting benefits of the SSU were discussed in this post.

Some bugs were fixed. If you were looking for new features, stop looking at Nokia/Maemo since last summer's initial Diablo release was the last real update and the so-called SSUs are only intended for fixing low-hanging bugs.

If you want OS improvements then hope that the community-built Mer (currently at pre-alpha, only for developers) will eventually give new life to your tablet. Of course then the commercial apps (like skype etc.) may cease to function.

I'd guess that's quite unlikely. We may have to haul in a boatload of old libraries for dependencies, but I'd be surprised if they can't be made to work somehow.

Oh, and I have seen the Mer, and it is awesome. It's also entirely unready for the general public, but you don't (I think) need to be a developer on it to make use of it, just a developer type; an N810 might be advisable, though, as there's loads of non-h-i-m software there.
