Is it possible to remove the red Google Talk presence icon from the top bar? I remember reading something about in this forum but I couldn't find anything by searching. I want to use the bluetooth plugin, clock, and load plugin but there isnt enough room.

Interesting question, ... but I also don't know how to do that and if it's even possible ? Should be, isn't it ?

Cheers, Jan

Let me add my vote to this. How do I get rid of the Presence icon, or the blank space it reserves in the little system tray? There is a gap there that I'd rather see used.

Unless you actually want to use Google Talk or IM, the easiest way to remove the presence icon is to delete your Google/Jabber account from the Accounts control panel applet. No account, no presence icon (also no Google Talk/Chat but hey, you can't have everything...)

When you delete your account, the system tray leaves a blank space where the presence icon is supposed to be. (It did this on previous versions of the OS. Did not test on the newest OS version)

Oh dear that's not good - really pretty daft having a blank icon consume a slot even when there's no account...

After I reflashed the latest OS it took me a few minutes to work out why there was no presence icon (due to missing account details) - I hadn't realised the blank icon still took up a space as I added my account details before installing any other status bar apps.

Doh. I've been wondering for ages about that empty space, as I've never configured and used Gtalk. Because I didn't notice it right away, I assumed it came from my many installs and uninstalls of taskbar plugins, and was just a kink in my system that would go away with the next flashing...

I too would really like a way to remove it, the space for those icons being already very limited as it is...

You should be able to just uncheck your Googletalk account for the icon to go away.

Please file a bug on this in bugzilla. This way it will be hopefully fixed in the next release.
