Hi all,

I am running an N810 with Diablo, and the App Manager tells me there is a 5.2008.43-7 update available.

However, when I try to install it, it tells me:

Unable to update OS2008 Feature upgrade
Application packages missing: kernel-diablo-flasher (= 2.6.21-200842maemo1)
xserver-xomap (= 1:1.3.99.0~git20070321-0osso20083801)

I suspect this is down to the fact that I have installed the kernel flasher for rotation, and now it is not recognising the required kernel flasher, right?

Please advise how I get back to the right version of the kernel flasher so I can install this upgrade!

Thanks in advance,
Neil

Hi,
I have the same problem and I think that it is due to installing the rotation hack (I used the one with the Advanced Backlight). The script for activating rotation does something to the Kernel flasher and xomap. Interestingly, before I activated the rotation feature, Application Manager said that the OS2008 Feature Upgrade was among the applications that was already installed.
I suspect that the rotation hack does something that makes the tablet think that the OS2008 Feature Upgrade is no longer installed, but that the functionality of the tablet is not compromised.
I've run my tablet without problems despite the OS2008 Feature Upgrade showing up each time Application Manager checks for upgrades. It's annoying.

I run my n810 mainly from the SD card. For the OS (Diablo) on the internal RAM, I do not have the rotation hack installed and it never says that the OS2008 Feature Upgrade needs upgrading.

Anyone else have this experience? Anyone else know how to get the OS2008 Feature Upgrade nag off of Application Manager?

It's likely that you'll just have to flash your tablet and start it from scratch.

FYI, this is the command given in the Maemo wiki to enable screen rotation via the Advanced Backlight applet:

maemo-mini-curl -o kernel-diablo flasher_2.6.21-200842maemo1rotationfast_all.deb http://outpo.st/rotate/kernel-diablo...onfast_all.deb
maemo-mini-curl -o xserver-xomap_1.3.99.0~git20070321-0osso20083801rotation_armel.deb http://outpo.st/rotate/xserver-xomap...tion_armel.deb
dpkg -i kernel-diablo-flasher_2.6.21-200842maemo1rotationfast_all.deb xserver-xomap_1.3.99.0~git20070321-0osso20083801rotation_armel.deb

As a newbie, I can't figure out (without a lot of work) what all these lines do, but it does look like something happens to the kernel-diablo-flasher and to xserver-xomap, the two elements said to be missing when one tries to upgrade the OS2008 Feature upgrade.

Does anyone else have an idea of how to reverse this process without reflashing the device?

I guess someone involved in writing the backlight rotation flasher needs to tell us whether it's doing any harm not being able to apply this upgrade, or whether it's just an anomaly of the automatic update notifier that we have to learn to live with!

It's an anomaly you'll have to live with. They use to have different version #s so it wouldn't show up this way (and whenever you installed a new SSU upgrade it would break rotation yet again thus the author would have to update it yet again).

I have similar a similar problem. I'm running an N800 with (I think) Diablo. Every time I go into app manager it says there are loads of updates, and none of them work.

The one at the top of the list is OS2008 Feature upgrade 4.2008.36-5. If I try and apply the update it says its Unable to because some packages required for the update are missing. If I then select Details, under the problems tab, the only thing missing is some pre-installed documentation!! I'm wondering if there is a way to force it to do the update.

Ignorring the "feature upgrade" for the moment, one of the later updates is apt 0.7.6maemo3. This one says that I am missing apt 0.7.6maemo2.

I'm hoping that there will be an OS2009 which will just wipe over the current OS like the last one did. Does anyone know if this is on the way?

Thanks!

Paul

Sadly no. Diablo is pretty much the last one. Anything else will be from the Mer project.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. Hadn't heard about the Mer project - I shall have to do a bit of googling...

DEFINITELY due to the rotation hack. Fortunately for me, this issue was only on my SD card install; so, I just used my Flash install instead.
