Espoo, Finland - Nokia announced today the porting of their Maemo OS to their mainstream hardware. Soon owners of Nokia touchscreen phones will have a choice of two platforms: Symbian or Maemo. The initial release of Maemo 5 (Fremantle) is planned to include support for the N97 and 5800 XpressMusic, with more to follow.
"As consumer demand increases for new multimedia experiences, Nokia is taking the leadership position to create new devices that meet this demand and maximize the experience for the user." said Philipp Schloter, General Manager, Nokia.

I searched the news releases and that article did not appear. Perhaps an April fools joke?

Another point to consider is that April's Fool is not celebrated worldwide either. For instance, in Spain the equivalent day is "Innocent's Day" on December 28. No idea how traditional is to celebrate April's Fool in Espoo, Finland.

I realize that...but playing an April fools day joke on me when it's still March for me seems kind of like giving me a prize for a race I haven't run yet (even if I will win it later).

Maybe it's an April Fools joke in 2009, but it might become reality in 2010.
