I noticed the "Sorry, you're S.O.L." notice on the US site said Dec 2005 this morning; it's back to January 2006.
kickass, because I _just_ ordered mine which will come in December. Close one!
EDIT: I just found out -- I never got the confirmation email, so I called nokia, and they said my order isn't in their records! But she also said that it might not have processed yet and that it might do it later. Anyone else had this problem?
Yeah we do have a club, I say we take pics of ourselves opening our boxes when they arrive like christmas, hell we might actually have to post our christmas pictures if we keep getting screwed!

And selecting one for back order displays the expected availability/ship date of "Jan 31, 2006" at that -- not very optimistic on Nokia USA's part, is it?

If mine processes and turns out in 2006, I'm just going to import one from Europe.

Yeah, that happened to me last week. For some reason, the last page in the ordering sequence never loaded (and, to my chagrin, I found out that the "Please wait for confirmation" page is NOT the last page in the sequence; since I never saw the actual last page, I can't tell you whether we had the same problem). I never did get the web ordering system to work for me, so I had to call and place my order over the phone.
same here, had to call in order.
Just called Customer Service, 1st week of Dec. Yadda-Yadda
No info on units, where they are comming from, how many are expected to arrive. I did the site survey you can guess as to how I ranked their "service".
Comments: Only sell when you can meet demand!
I don't buy their excuse that the delay is because of unexpected demand. If that were the case, they'd still have a shipment of however many they expected ready to go, so they could ship those out to the first however many orders, then send them out to everybody else when the rest come. Why would they all have to be shipped at the same time?
I think there must have been some complete screwup they're not telling us about. I like to think that they're really fixing some production bug, like the WAP incompatabilities that have been reported. I'd rather have a fixed unit later than a problematic one now, so thinking of it that way makes me a bit less upset about the wait.
If the delay is because of a last minute QA problem, then I'm actually ok with it. I find that theory easier to believe than nokia being grossly incompetent. Nokia probably doesn't want to own up to QA problems publically. I recall similar past rumors about nokia recalling phones right before they were about to hit shelves, but not admitting it. In this case, mostly the US order processor looks inept, instead of nokia getting a reputation for building faulty junk.
I wonder how many more theories we can come up with while anxiously waiting for the 770.
What this situation needs is some publicity. I have emailed Engadget.com about 770 delays. Usually blogs such as this one and others usually generate alot of PR that may be brought to the attention of Nokia Execs and even mainstream media such as CNN, USA Today, etc.
Maybe this type of publicity will get us some straight answers, if not directly from Nokia.
I ordered my 770 on Nov. 15 hoping to have it in time for Thanksgiving like everyone else. I am considering cancelling the order if i dont get it in December like they promised and purchasing an HTC Wizard (also know as K-Jam) which has Wifi and runs on Windows Mobile 2005. According to Wired Magazine, T-Mobile should be offering it sometime soon.
