I am a student that has had an active interest in the tablets and the tablet community since I bought my N800 a year ago. I have been reading the forums since just after then, and this is the first time that I have had an idea that was worth sharing. A while ago, I read a thread where someone was interested in communication between people who use the tablet, as well as another thread that talked about setting up a network between the community that would allow music sharing. I would like to check to see if enough people are interested in this for me to work on it.

The program I am planning is going to be based on a P2P algorithm, to allow the information to be hosted between the tablets, without having to keep direct contact with a server. Although I am posting it here now, this will probably not be started for another few weeks. The program is originally going to be made using Java, as a project for a class. The reason that I am posting this early, is that I would like to gather names of a couple people who could help with porting the program over, as it will need to be translated to C++ and GTK+, as well as needing to be hildonized.

(Summary of the program)
The goal is to create a P2P algorithm and a client program, which will allow chat (in a certain category, between members, or in a chat room), Email between members, file transfers, and, with the permission of the forum, an interface that allows users to view the forum in an incredibly simple mode for speed using the tablet.

Please respond if you have any questions or comments, would like to help, or make a suggestion or anything that might help during the project.

Thanks.

Welcome to the forum

There is nicotine for the tablets. Its a P2P program similar to what you said. IRC allows chat. Also, tear makes web browsing really fast. Not too sure how this is different that what is currently possible.

Oh, and you don't need a idea to post here. Any idiot with a web browser can.

Wait a second....

The reason for posting the idea is that the program is going to be made anyway, except it will be serving a different purpose. While the program that would be used for the tablet is nothing different from what's already out there, the original idea was to create the program for the students and teachers in the school, to allow teachers to post information easily and share it with students who are taking the course, and for the students to be able to communicate with each other, edit files in real time with other people, post on discussion boards, email, store files, and many other things, while requiring very little intervention from a host server, which would do very little work.
The reason that I mentioned different features for the proposed tablet version, was that those two things seemed the most useful for the people on the forums, based on the threads that I've read. The main part of the program that is important is the engine, which drives the communication between the people using the program.
If there is a more useful way to put this to use, then please suggest it. I have been trying to find a project that would be helpful for tablet users, and this seemed like it might be a nice program to have, by offering a more specialized field of use than the programs you listed. One of the threads I found recently talked about having a way to share music between tablets, and the solution that was suggested was using a UPnP server. (http://www.internettablettalk.com/fo...ad.php?t=28502) There was also something which was posted, which suggested a program similar to one of Nokia's Ovi programs, which would provide the ability to chat with other tablet owners.
Again, if there's anyway that this could be useful, please feel free to post a suggestion or comment.
