Hello everybody!

I would like to know if it is it worthy to get a fast SD card for the n800.

I want to try ubuntu and other heavier applications on it.

But it seems that n800 hardware is bottlenecking the SD cards performance. Any thoghts on this?

I've seen some testbenches telling that Lexar 133x, Sandisk Ultra III and Transcend (both class 6) are the best cards. But also expensive ones (over 150 USD). On the other hand we can buy 16GB cards from the chinese chain for about 20 USD.

What would you say? How have you been experiencing cards speed?

Thank you!

Best Regards,

Rick

Even class 4 will do. But don't buy from any chinese chain if you can, especially if they ship you the SD from Hong Kong.

Go with buy.com, newegg.com, ...

ecost.com has Transcend cards for really cheap. But they usually charge like $13 for shipping. Oh and welcome to ITT Rick.

I would look out for cards which are not entirely "power friendly". My 16bg card, which I have traded out for a 4gb, would not generally go into a good sleep-state, and my batteries would drain very, very quickly -- unless, apparently, the card were unmounted (based on others findings). A search here should get you some meaningful data on that. -- Thor

Thank you everyone!

I just bought an 8GB Patriot SDHC card. As soon as I put my hands on it I will post a review.

It'll be fine, I've been running the same card for over a year now no problems at all.

running two HP branded Class 4 4GB cards with the N800 booted from the external slot. No HW problems at all. External slot is a must if you're going to try to install a whole mess of apps.

Hi everyone!!

I just got a generic Adata Class 6 turbo 8GB sdhc card.

Please, take a look at the benchmaking I made with "Flash Memory Toolkit".

What do you think about it?
