"though the buzz on the Web is on the N900 Rover tablet that's rumored to succeed the N810 Internet Tablet.
I'm starting to lose confidence in phone functionality. I've argumented that Nokia needs to fix a whole lot of stuff to be an acceptable phone. But if they did, the phone would not only be acceptable but superb when you take other things in consideration. It would outshine the N97 too much.
I don't see a trend in people selling superb equipment. It'd be too much of a leap. For such a product to work, it would have to be the most powerful phone on the market. I'm just not that optimistic.
I am starting to believe what some others here say, that it'll just be a smaller, fatter and more expensive tablet with 3G. With fewer keys. And I don't much like that vision.
Volt Nokia is transitioning with Maemo in its high end handsets, whille S60 is down shifted. They have received criticism about S60 touch...and know that the N97 isnt a killer device for them, its weak HW wise and S60 is nothing to rave about.
With the announcements of the new Iphone, Palm Pre, and a Samsung behemoth coming up on the 15th of June...Nokias high end is lacking. IF they rely only on the N97 they will continue losing market share as they have been doing....they NEED something different, and explosive...and its not the N97.
They need a superb phone and position their 'internet tablet' division to take on the Iphone etc would make sense since its just evolving with added phone capabilities.
I only know about the US phone market but if the leak is correct and it is on T-mobiles US 3g bands then it would make a lot of sense. The N97, Palm Pre, iphone and many other high end all in one phones will not work on T-mobile 3g here. T-mobile would have customers switching carriers just to get this phone, just like people switch carriers to get the iphone etc. It would make T-mobile much more competitive.
Or you could buy it unlocked for the premium prices these other phones go for unlocked
Technically, the "second half of 2009" starts June 21st!
But it ends six months later. The pattern so far is that things are delayed a lot. I could be wrong, but specifying what half of the year instead of which quarter is a recipe for delaying without admitting it.

If they meant that it would be coming any time before October 1st, they would have said "3rd quarter" :-)
"second half" is corporate speak for "we didn't feel comfortable committing to 3rd quarter, but we don't want to say it'll be as late as 4th quarter either, so even though it'll be 4th quarter, we're just going to tell you 'second half'".

Wait they don't? I thought people got the iPhone working on TMobiles network. There was a recent snafu when TMobile changed account access though and people were locked out of their voicemail though..(but TMobile fixed it.. how nice of them).
