hello fellow n users! ive tried to search for my problem but has come up with no luck...its shame too, you would think a device like the nokia n800/810 would be a tad more popular...

anyways,

things i think im doing right:

it find satalites
it gets fixes

things going wrong:

maps are all "black" i cant see anything, and i dont know whats up
says "16 maps failed to download"

if there is something im missing, insight would be helpful

also, i read somewhere that downloading a-gps helps...how do i use that in conjunction with maemo mapper?

thanks a lot!

If all you see is black, then no maps have been loaded/downloaded. Check that you have some maps downloaded (OpenStreet, VE, Google etc). One of the menu options will enable a lot of different map sources, then what you need to do is download them. The easiest way to download the maps is to turn on auto-download and go to where ever you need maps for. The other way is to zoom to an area you want, go to Menu > Maps > Manage Maps... and choose the Zoom Levels that you want to download.

If you're getting "maps failed to download", try switching the map resource and see if it will download from a different source.

Edit:....
The fragostech link posted by nhanquy is also extremely helpful. That site was very helpful when I first installed maemo mapper.

actually this is getting rather annoying now, i uninstalled-reinstalled the program, and deleted all the maps, and re downloaded open street, and stuff all i get is a black screen with a compass on the bottom corner that points north, and a little blue think with a line on it in the center of the screen..

i cant be the only one who has had this problem?

The black screen means you don't have maps downloaded in your NIT, at least for the current area. Yes, you must have the maps respositories enabled (Google, Yahoo, etc.) but that means nothing. You need to download the maps first.

To get maps into MaemoMapper involves several steps. Check on it stepbystep, and post back, some guru here will be able to help you.

1) Can you dl things? Is your internet connected?
2) Do you have the URL to dl things? menu>Maps, you should have a bunch of them, OpenStreet, Google Steet, Google Satellite.... If not, menu>Maps>check Download Sample Repositories. Some URL maybe dead, like Google, switch around and check, OpenSteet is working, I just checked.
3) Is Menu>Maps>Auto-Download checked?
4) Do you have room to save dl? The default is tablet intFlash. If that is full, you will NOT be able to dl anything. You can go Menu>Maps>Manage Repositories>Browse and change it to some other folders, like your MMC. Or clean up your intFlash to make room.
dl DiskUsage or
xterm
free

to check space on your tablet.

That is what just come to mind. From what you described, your installation is fine. BTW, what tablet/OS/MM version etc you are using?

the urls are all bad for each of the maps (out dated).
