I love this device...I use it more than my laptop some days...
I no longer have a laptop, since it belonged to my former company and I had to relinquish it when I was laid off...However, I bought the N810 in lieu of a netbook...
What it all comes down to is that this device is SO much more than an email/browser device...it's an office in my pocket
Office, entertainment, as a friend of mine calls it, my brain prosthesis.
Lessee, what do I use?
FBReader - I use this for both personal reading (it reads unencrypted MobiPocket files just fine) and web content which I create with Plucker. A great place for Science Fiction e-books is the Baen free library.
Rapier - a portable version of the Bible Time Bible reader on my KDE desktop at home.
Evince - The best PDF reader I have found for the NIT.
MPlayer - I just got a job, and it involves a 2 1/2 hr commute, including an hour and change on the train. MPlayer has been indispensible. I can watch all but the longest movie between the morning and evening train ride. I use tablet-encode (avis) or handbrake (DVDs) to convert to the N810's screen size.
Personal Menu - As SilverMountain says...Great app...
Canola - mp3 (mainly podcast) playback. Best I have found so far...Though I am looking for suggestions.
Xournal and Leafpad - I use Xournal for quick scribble notes (e.g. grocery lists) and Leafpad for note-taking, though looking for
Other apps:
HP42 Calculator, OpenVPN, Maemo Mapper. OMweather
Games:
Xword, AisleRot, Gweled. I have Duke3D, Shadow Warrior and Qii, but haven't played them much.
The other thing I can recommend is to get a Bluetooth keyboard.
