I've installed all the pre-req's but when I click on the link to the .deb it doesn't start an install..it just show it as a text file...
How can I trigger it to do an install instead?

Site w/ deb file link: http://www.n8ftl.com/maemo/tmw.htm

EDIT: Nvm, think I figured it out.

The web site's author probably didn't have the mime type set for the browser to recognize it as an installable deb.

You should tap and hold the tap until you get a menu, then choose to download the deb. Go into the App manager and just use the drop down menu to choose 'Application' and 'Install from file...'

Lol, that solution was much easier than mine

Thanks!

EDIT: Hm, I'm getting 'Unable to install TMW' when doing the above.
Hmm..back to the drawing board.

Try installing from the deb again, but when it asks you if you want to install, tap "Details" and click the "Installing" tab. If it says it needs extra packages, that should tell you what the problem is.

Nope, the Installing tab doesn't call out for any additional libs.
The author did list a long series of steps to take..I'll try them next.

These ones:
When you download it to the N8x0 go into XTerm, become root however you choose to do so. (see http://wiki.maemo.org/Root_access if you do not already know how to do this...) most everything below has to be done in XTerm as root. (well, actually now that I think about it, it probably can be done as user, but in case there is something that cant, do it as root...)

First get to the root of the filesystem:
(cd /)

Then when at root, copy the .tar.gz from where ever you downloaded it to / by using the copy command:
(cp /home/user/MyDocs/.documents/tmw-0.0.28.1-ARMEL.tar.gz / )

Then uncompress it using:
( tar -xzvf tmw-0.0.28.1-ARMEL.tar.gz )

This will install everything where it belongs. (well it should anyway...)

Then you can download the most recent tmw binary from my 1st post or the one a couple posts up and copy it over the original using:
(cp /home/user/MyDocs/.documents/tmw /home/user/)

You may also have to set the permissions on this file to make it run:
(chmod +x /home/user/tmw)

Now you should (SHOULD) have an icon (though a broken one) in extras called The Mana World and you can click on it to start the game.

That's for the tarred version though. The deb should install. I say try the "long way" using the tarred version and see if you can get it installed. If not, then there might be an error somewhere. Keep us updated on your progress.

Got it working great!

I'm playing an MMORPG on an N810....I have reached level 6 of geekdom!

And, this game seems pretty fun (based on 5 mins of playtime).

Woot!! GO NIT !!
