    Great news Ukki, I'll test it ASAP!

    Done some quick testing with gstreamer playback, and it didn't quite cure the occasional choppiness, but I'll keep fiddling about with profile settings.

    One thing though: It doesn't keep the screen lit!

    I've also reorganized my mp3 folder like you suggested, but I'm still not getting the search hits I expect. Is the search relying solely on filenames now? If so do you search for words or substrings?

    Thanks for testing. I'll fix the screen lit problem when I get the chance.

    Search uses the basic fields like path, duration, aspect, resolution etc, but you can also search using tags like:

    c:\Music;artist=band,album!=first album

    That would search for items from under c:\Music that are from band and from album that is not the first album. There is an example search under Edit media, Learn more if that wasn't quite right

    I'll experiment some more with searching then

    One more thing - I gave h264 (x264 encoder) a go - and every now and then it crashes vlc player. Anywho, when it works, it only works locally on the pc - not on the n900. In vlc I browsed the media info - and it says 48fps! (double what the profile is set to) It doesn't do this with mp2v or mp4v. Is that a bug?

    One more possible bug: I scanned my library in chunks (2-4 folders at a time), to avoid the previously mentioned problems with system instability etc, but ended up with an item count that was way too low. I figured I had accidentially skipped some folders and tried re-updating a couple of folders.

    It was apparent that if the folder had already been scanned, the process was quite quick, so I took the chance at initiated a complete update process.

    I stopped the process after the item count had gone 2000+ beyond what I actually have on the drive. Is it plausible that theres a flaw in the "duplicate check" code?

    No, bugs aren't possible.

    Do you see duplicate entries? Knots now scans images by default too, maybe that explains the high item count? If you see duplicate entries, please open a bug so I'll remember to fix it.

    Roger that. Just to be clear, it doesn't count images embedded in id3 tags does it?

    Whoa little breakthough on the h264 front.

    With these x264 parameters:

    {profile=baseline,level=1}

    It runs 100% fluid @ 1024kbit video and totally blows mp4v @ 2048 away.

    Gonna go to bed now, but tomorrow I'll see how low the bitrate can be taken before theres any major visual degradation.

    Strange...
    I have tried a lot of different things now, even done a complete remove of the knots server, the database and reinstalled/reconfigured it again.
    The positive thing was that some things started to show up that wasn't there before in the settings pages, probably related to the database rather than the code.
    However, with the N900 it's still a no-go after having run the application a second time after re-installation. So, first time after installation it works to connect, because what happens first is that I get the hildon banner that it tries to connect, it fails and then brings me the "connect automatically" and "connect manually" icons. I use connect manually, giving my server and credentials and it logs on and everything's fine.
    Then, shutting down the app. and starting it again I have the same behaviours again, it tries to connect, but i ends up with the black screen and the hildon progress icon keeps spinning.
    Only thing to do is to reinstall, and I have one more shot.

    There must be something different in the newest n900 apps in the connection procedure (especially the automatic connection procedure)?
    Or is there some old configuration somewhere on the n900 that I have to delete once and for all?
    Confused!
