I can't connect to the server from my N900 nor from my laptop, what's wrong?
When I open Knots 2 application on my N900 it says "trying to connect, please wait" and then "not connected to server"

Did you make sure firewall isn't blocking access? By default client should automatically connect, but if it doesn't, make sure server is running and you can connect to it with a browser. Then make sure your firewall isn't blocking access. If automatic connection still fails, try manual connection. By default Knots uses desktopip:1978.

Thanks Ukki got it working! I was using a wrong ip...

I have one more question for you, I doubt it's possible but i'll ask anyway: Is it possible to stream High Definition video through the n900 to a hd tv, without reducing the resolution?

Is Knots able to play the contents of a DVD when it has been ripped to its VOB/IFO file contents?

I share DVD data sometimes, and it is frequently ripped down to its VOB/IFO files.

I understand that Knots can play a DVD that has been ripped and archived as an ISO, bit it would be great if it could also play these VOB files. Even better would be,
if it could play the entire video content of a DVD by opening the controlling IFO file, sort of the way that VobBlanker can scan a DVD by being pointed to the VIDEO_TS.IFO file, you know?

VobBlanker, for those who don't know, is a very powerful (and only slightly confusing) freeware DVD ripper/editor.

    No, it's not.

If you mean DVD directories (VIDEO_TS) like they exist on DVDs, then yes.

Hey thanks for the quick reply. Honestly, i dont know if i can trust basic auth, i am not that deep in the matter. Do you think for 3G access from outside my normal home network its safe enough?

    Good question:

    http://httpd.apache.org/docs/1.3/how...ml#basiccaveat

It all depends on you view on security so I'm not the one to answer that

That's good to know. But I have never been able to get Knots to play a ripped VIDEO_TS directory, or the files in it.

Is there a special way the directory must be presented to Knots? And/or, what file must Knots be pointed to? I've never seen anything more complicated than simple "pointing to a folder" with Knots. Am I doing something wrong?

Knots should automatically treat folders that have VIDEO_TS inside as DVD folders. If they don't get scanned with a fresh server and database, please file a bug with details.

Ok, new client in devel that fixes the freeze bug with auth dialog and new server released for Windows with new profiles from Wildt. I'm not migrating the new profiles so you can click on the "Reset profiles" button to reset to defaults. Without that, the old N900 profile won't work with the latest client.

Please install the client from -devel and test it. If nothing serious comes up, I'll promote it -testing and hopefully it will be the next stable one.

After that, I think I'll try something different. Knots has taken quite a lot of my time and effort. It could be better but it does its job pretty well now and I think it's time to leave it at that. Who knows, maybe there will be a rewrite for Meego, but I will need way more help then

Thanks to everyone involved, especially mtron who kinda got me to write both of them.
