    Thanks for your work ukki!
It works great but I cannot play videos from my digital compact camera (Quicktime .mov) and I think it was possible before (I am not 100% sure). I can watch them with VLC on my PC without a problem.
Is there any way to fix this?

    Example file:

I'll check that, but how exactly aren't they working now? Did you upgrade and reset the profiles? Do you have the extra decoders package installed? If VLC has problems transcoding them to h264, try creating a new profile with the old mp2v and mp2a video/audio codecs and add mplayer to the player field if you want to use mplayer instead. Most problems should be fixable with custom profiles and two different player options.

And I hope MPEG-LA doesn't sue me for using h264 in the default profiles.

I'll check that, but how exactly aren't they working now? It tries to start/load them (screen freezes) but after some time it stops (screen is released again) without even showing a black screen or something else that shows me that the file will be played. Knots takes a break and then is accessible again.

Did you upgrade and reset the profiles? Yes

Do you have the extra decoders package installed? Yes

I'm getting constant "stream failed to start" messages, help!

I did that "startvlc.cmd " file thing as mentioned in the wiki for just this same error message (evem thoug I am not running Vista), but it did not help.

I have done a complete fresh install of Knots on my XP machine (I deleted the original Knots folder and reinstalled with the latest build), and I even uninstalled Knots from my N900 and reinstalled it there. But still, the same error messages.

What am I doing wrong? I could use Knots fine a few weeks ago.

Ed. I don't know if this will help, but if I try and play a video through the PC's browser (i.e. opening a video from the "Browse" tab and pressing the PLAY button), I get this message.
I'm unsure if I should be able to play the video from this location, though, so I'm just putting it out there if it can help.

This sounds like a VLC problem. Make sure you use the latest and you don't have the using VLC 1.1 or newer on unless you are using VLC > 1.1.

I made few little Windows fixes and released a new server. I tested it with XP and 7 and scanned dvd dirs, dvd images, vdr and vdr recordings, normal xvids, pictures, mp3s and DaSilvas camera video too. All scanned and played perfectly on both machines without any issues. So please upgrade to latest server, delete the .config folder inside your Knots folder, start the server and rescan. Also make sure the client is 0.3.1-3.

EDIT: And Knots seems to work fine with pr1.2, but some dialogs are little funny now, will fix them.

I have installed PR1.2 (flashed completely new) and Knots from extras-devel and did a git pull and I miss subtitles. They worked before this change and I can still not play the attached video in Knots but now it says "Knots failed to stream".

This sounds like your database isn't up to date, if stream fails to start it usually means the item can't be found from disk. And lack of subtitles is because I removed a hack that made them work without a rescan on Windows.

So close the server, go to your Knots folder and delete the .config folder, start the server, add your scanned folders again and rescan and all should work.

Ok, I did all you suggested (although my VLC was up to date, but I reset it to defaults just to be safe) and after a few false starts, things are now working quite well. Thanks for your help.

One thing is odd, though - I am unable to see any files in the "browse by path" mode, which is my favorite way to pick a file. I am getting all the videos available when clicking on the "video" icon., but those same videos are not visible in the "browse by path" mode, it just says "no results". Any ideas about that?

Have you added just a root drive like c:\ or do you have several paths there? Any of them have non-ascii characters in them? Can you run knots2 in xterm to see if there are utf-8 errors printed?

Edit: it must be the change I made with paths, will fix it tomorrow.

Then I have a problem with too many files I think (it stops after 3.505 files twice).
Maybe I have to add them in chunks or you can find a way to improve that.
    Thanks anyway!
