Hi, I am new here, but its a while since i use my n800, for 6 months now, and I never had bigger issues,. I am running os2008 diablo and now suddenly my alarm doesnt work. If i try to change it , I get a message „Unable to perform operation. Try again“ I even tryied to restore a month old settings but it still wont work. Weired thing is, that after the alarm stopped working also when I go to settings do some changes and exit, the next time when i go to the settings it doesent remember my last position , like sounds , or bluetooth, and before it always did.
I tried to restart it several times, run without cards but no succes.
I miss the alarm so much, could somebody help?

one more thing: if I remember correctly if you mute in an audio app and then get out you should get back and un-mute it. It may help.

Is alarmd running?

[user:~] 506 % ps axu|grep alarmd
1416 user 5392 SW /usr/bin/alarmd
3644 user 1888 RW grep alarmd

It should start on reboot.

You can try (as root):

/etc/init.d/alarmd start

I don't know why it won't restart for you. You can take a look at the rc directories and see if it's still listed there. When Linux starts up (or shuts down) it runs all the scripts in the rcN.d directory (where N is the runlevel, e.g. 0=halt; 1=single user; 2-5 are multi user; 6=reboot). Anyways, without going into much more detail, you should have the following symbolic links:

% file /etc/rc*/*alarmd
/etc/rc0.d/K01alarmd: symbolic link to `../init.d/alarmd'
/etc/rc1.d/K01alarmd: symbolic link to `../init.d/alarmd'
/etc/rc2.d/S99alarmd: symbolic link to `../init.d/alarmd'
/etc/rc3.d/S99alarmd: symbolic link to `../init.d/alarmd'
/etc/rc4.d/S99alarmd: symbolic link to `../init.d/alarmd'
/etc/rc5.d/S99alarmd: symbolic link to `../init.d/alarmd'
/etc/rc6.d/K01alarmd: symbolic link to `../init.d/alarmd'
