iPod "background" pictures.

The link leads to pages (in a language I don't understand) with pictures including iPods in some way, but talk about fanboysim! I wonder why we don't do similar pictures for our tablets? We probably just don't have the time (to generalize, the community seems like they are occupied with work, school, busy lives, etc. -- wasn't there an age poll somewhere around here?).

Anyway, sort of related is something related to the iPhone/iPod touch (sort of, but related to windows mobile/other mobile OSs strongly as well).

I was wondering if it would be possible to have a full screen application that consolidated multiple streams of information? (ex: latest twitter, facebook, weather, rss feeds, battery status, etc.) I love widgets just as much as any community member, but I'm guessing that having a single application that can do that would strain system resources less than having a desktop full of widgets (especially if the application is closed before doing other things). Also, the application could act as sort of a "screen lock", with a button to close it (yes, I know the screen would still light up every time it was jostled, bumped, hit, etc. - it would just serve as a temporary lock - for example to keep your siblings/kids/etc. from messing with your tablet, without having to mess with that pesky hardware button). Just a thought. If anyone could make something close, that would be great. Note that I'm not necessarily looking for the iPod/Windows Mobile "look" here, just a general consolidation of information in an easy to read font. I can throw out a mockup (in a week, after my final is over) if someone gives me a general direction for the look.

It's European, the same language everyone in Europe speaks ;-)
(It's Italian, and that's just another dig at scoble [in a previous post] not at you)

I think having them in one app is a bad idea, having them in separate widgets allows you to move them around where-ever you need them on the "dashboard".

The overhead shouldn't be that much if all the apps are small.
I'm running kde 4.x on my desktop and I have about 5 or six "plasma widgets" running, and they don't seem to chew my cpu or resources much.

I would guess having separate widgets allows more flexibility in design whilst keeping the look and feel the same?

I quite like this kind of look:

I definitely love widgets and that look too (you should see my desktop on both my laptop and desktop computers), but see how the widgets have a uniform look with a nice big font (easily and quickly readable) for the render. It seems the widget designers didn't have that in mind when making their widgets for the tablets (and even if they did, we have only so much desktop real estate).

If we had an application similar to the (presumably) render at the link you posted, we could have more information going off the of the screen and scroll to see it if that's what we want. Also, I find the lack of desktop widgets linking to popular social networks saddening (probably because a lack of interest due to the general age of people on this forum). Even if we could have widgets to show a couple of the latest updates/wall posts/tweets/youtube video updates, that information would quickly overwhelm the desktop space or would be severely limited by it. An application with that sort of information doesn't have to be "static," it could have settings where we could rearrange/add/remove feeds.

Like I said, just a thought.
