Hello all -

A quick note first to say thanks for this forum. It helped me decide to get a 770 and I've been playing with it quite constantly for a few days - also the overall wealth of tips here has been wonderful. I hope to add an impressions post shortly. First though, I've got something specific I'm stuck on please:

First, for my work it seems the people I'm chatting with are all on AIM. I'd like to use AIM on the 770 and have read the posts regarding linking AIM into the Jabber app via a transport and I've done so. I've also installed GAIM and played with that a bit. I've read the threads and still am wondering if there are known workarounds for:

1) Jabber and the built in Nokia app will log me on my AIM account. My buddy list is imported. But I don't get status on any of them and I can't tell if anyone has managed to be able to do this at all. I am pretty sure that this is the limitation of using a transport but I'd like to ask as I was hoping to use the built in app. I particularily like the status menu bar item and the idea of online status of chatters being available elsewhere on device. I guess what I'm saying is I'm trying to get this app to work for my needs (AIM) as I like it's overall integration.

2) If I go an use GAIM, there are some things there: is there any type of menu bar status item for login status? Does it always leave the login window open after moving to buddy list? Is there any type of desktop plugin to show buddy list on home page?

I'm just sort of hoping for a better integrated solution. I'd really be happy if Nokia managed to get AIM supported officially. Who knows, Apple managed to do so with iChat, it seems possible in terms of corporate politics.

Any advice on smoothing out the above is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

d.

That login window still showing after sign in annoys me too! Closing it kills the entire app.
The desktop version of GAIM replaces it with the contact list window when signed in, so why does it remain there in the Maemo port? The version I used on the 2005 OS didn't have this bug. Can it be fixed, please!?
