Hi,

I'm new to maebo and would like to access samba shares on an ubuntu server.

I'm using a n800 running 5.2008.43-7 of maemo.

In the file manager I can see my server and the shared directories under "Shared folders", but I cannot see any files in the directories. It does not ask me for a user name or password to access these shared, which is required.

I can access shared folder with guest access, but I don't want to have that for all my shares.

I have tried to use Wizard Mounter ( http://maemo.org/downloads/product/O...izard-mounter/ ) and it seems to work ( says "Mounting Process Complete" ), and when I return to File Manger I see a new "Remote_Filesystem" in the file tree, but if I tap them they are still empty.

I noticed that the title bar for Wizard Mounter reads "Wizard Mounter 1.1", but in the Application manager it is reported to be version "1.4.1-maemo4.1". I'm not sure if I have it installed correctly.

The perfect solution would be for File Manger to ask for a usename/password when I want to access password protected shares. Is there a way to get it to do that? (The help file states for File Manager states that "You cannot access password protected shared folders" so I assume not)
Is there another file manager that can access password protected shared folders or at least a way to get Wizard Mounter to work?

Thanks,

Waspinator

Hi & welcome to the forum!

Samba support in Diablo is a bit buggy, see for example https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=3804 but won't receive fixes for Diablo (5.2008.43-7) if it's not a very critical issue.
Also be warned that this feature is going to be dropped for the next software version (Fremantle).
Yeah, I'm not really a messenger of good news, I know. :-(

Hey Waspinator

I also have not been able to make it work, I understand the share can't have a password, so isn't very secure.

An alternative is to install the OpenSSH client/server package and use an SFTP like Cyberduck, or CuteFTP to copy files onto the Nokia from the Ubuntu machine.

It seems like a strange move to drop samba support for a network device.

Did anyone get Wizard Mounter to work? I didn't see anything in the comments section of the app.

Is Nokia's "File Manager" open source? If it is maybe there would be a way to add password protected shares to it.

Thanks,

It is probably an issue in gnome-vfs which is open source.
Note that upstream gnome-vfs (in GNOME) has been dropped in favor of gvfs (reasons in short: gnome-vfs is broken by design).
