Hi guys,
Is it possible to print pdf files from the N770 to a network printer via WiFi (from Xterm maybe)?
Has anyone tried this?
Thanks!

AFAIK, PDF files, contrary to PostScript files, cannot be processed by a printer (unless someone has invented a PDF-printer while I wasn't looking). So, as long as the 770 doesn't get a printing subsystem, I'd say: No.

PostScript is a different matter: If you have a PostScript printer, you can feed it PS files through the network and it will happily print them, if set up correctly.

Of course, the 770 doesn't "do" PostScript either, right? Ah, got you there. Look here, mate:

It sure ain't pretty, 'cuz you have to put in all the codes by yourself in an editor (QuickScript has a more-or-less-GUI editor, but it's Java-based and you would need at least a DVI-viewer for the 770), but you can print directly to a PostScript printer, or send a file to any computer that has a PostScript-compatible interpreter (GhostScript, dude!) on board.

????
Where to get PostScript printers? Myself, I bought an el-cheapo HP LaserJet 4 and installed an eBayed PostScript card in it. Network interfaces can be had equally conveniently; mine has an AppleTalk card in it, but that's because I use that printer mostly to print stuff from my Newton MessagePad (yes, I'm a weirdo).

Thanks for the info mate! Like many other things...printing from this toy would have been useful!

Cheers,

I use the following script. It is of course best to have authentification by key rather than by password.

#!/usr/bin/perl
my($file)=$ARGV[0];
system("scp $file user\@computer.net:");
system("ssh user\@computer.net lpr $file");
sleep 100;
system("ssh user\@computer.net rm -f $file");
exit;
