Have downloaded and successfully (I think) installed on my 770 Aleksandyr's five abiword component applications, but (as predicted by him?) abiword doesn't yet run, ostensibly because its missing some critical dependencies. I don't have the skills (or courage) to attempt anything with Scratchbox. Do I just have to wait for further refinements from Aleksandyr (which I don't mind doing), or is there something reasonably more that I can do on my own?

Posting the error message you get will probably go a long way, yes

The error message I get when trying to run "abiword" from root is as follows:

"abiword: error while loading shared libraries: libglade-2.0.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory"

    What should I do?

    UPDATE:
For those who are missing libglade dependency, please add the maemo repository entry to your application manager:

    Web Address: http://repository.maemo.org
    Distribution: mistral
    Components: free non-free

    From http://etrunko.blogspot.com/2006/07/...or-it2006.html

You'll need to 'apt-get install libglade' as root.

While I am most appreciative of your efforts to fill in the blanks for me (and interested others) the two sites you give I find are not sufficiently straight-forward for me to successfully access and/or use The repository initially puts on the screen a one-line text title (and when fleshed out through an alternate search seems then to limit itself only for use within the scratchbox) and the other site's apparently relevant downloads are not able to be effectively installed on the 770, utilizing either the application manager or the the dpkg -i command. What am I doing wrong? Any further assistance will be greatly appreciated.

    My apologies for not clarifying.

You will need to add the repository, as described in my post, to your repository list in application manager. Alternatively, you may manually edit sources.list yourself, but I would not recommend this.

Afterwards, gain root and execute 'apt-get install libglade' at which point you should be able to run abiword.

The line about only using it in scratchbox refers to the fact that adding it to a running i386 debian-based installation will cause Hildon libraries to be installed on a non-hildon PC. This would cause a few issues

Sorry to be so apparently dense, but I can't get past "square one." I cannot successfully load "http://repository.maemo.org" to my Application Manager Catalog. When I enter it and try to refresh, the result is a "unable to refresh list" message. Are you certain that "http://repository.maemo.org" is currently operational? Have you checked on it recently? Thanks again for your help on this. Also, when I try to run the apt-get command, it still indicates that libglade is missing.

Try adding a / on the end.

I seem to have a similar problem. When running from xtrm I get :-

    /home/user # abiword
abiword: error while loading shared libraries: libSM.so.6: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

    /home/user # apt-get intall libSM
    Reading package lists... Done
    Building dependency tree... Done
    E: Couldn't find package libSM

I get the same response when substituting libglade. This has been tried both with and without a trailing / on :-
    repoository.maemo.org
    mistral
    free non-free

    any help would be appreciated.
