Here's what my good pal Matt thinks::

"I would rather see Nokia devote resources to making capacitive touch screen smartphones with a user interface to compete with the iPhone, Android, and WebOS devices since the netbook market is already flooded with competitors at very low prices. Nokia’s worldwide smartphone market share has been falling every quarter for quite some time and it would be nice to see them focus on their core market."

Jesus, relax people. You're all acting like Nokia's suddenly rejected all Linux use as well as all of us Linux users. This thing was probably started by a different part of the company that has no knowledge of Maemo whatsoever.

Who cares. It shouldn't matter to you if you aren't planning on buying it anyways.

Yup, Windows comes basically just because Ovi Suite works only on Windows and they advertise the synchronization capabilities so heavily on the Booklet

...yet another netbook? ...now with 3G telco lock-in! Which telco overlord will be be praying to today? Will this be competitively priced with other netbooks? More importantly, will the telco eventually lord over what applications you'll be allowed to run on your netbook?

Nokia's focus has been moving beyond phones...

I care because I would have bought it, if it ran Maemo or Ubuntu. I've been waiting for Nokia to announce this ever since texrat first mentioned the rumors. But, I will NOT buy a Windows netbook, under any circumstances. A Maemo version, sold that way by Nokia? Yes. This thing, as it is currently announced? No.

The editing on that video is impressive. There are a few rough spots, such as the "Synchronize" shot and some filter work, but I love it. I've watched it a number of times already, and I know I'll be reviewing it several more times.

Oh, right. Umm, the notebook looks decent.

What does 'favour the other' mean in this context ? Not offer at all ? Discourage people buying the alternative ? Try to better explain the differences to customers ?

I just mean to say that I understand Nokias choice - as a FIRST operating system. Linux alternative also makes sense to me.

I also understand that Nokia might want more legs to stand on. There _is_ a convergence between smaller pcs and telephones, and Nokia would be wise to be a part of all markets.

That I understand their OS choice, does not mean I think they will be successful. Their brand name does not carry weight here, the OS choice means they will be meeting hard competition, all in all I think they're picking a fight against bigger kids.

Maybe it is necessary for Nokia to be in this market even if it means as the 10th biggest contestant. If this part of the market grows then it means other pie slices shrink elsewhere. They're sorely lacking in the top end smartphone market, the N97 is no big success, and the N900 is not here yet, and I bet it will be yet another "beta user experience" since it's first generation. They need to get these "beta user experiences" done with if they want to continue being a part of the changing markets. They need 2nd generation Linux phones, 2nd generation booklets, before they can expect to up-heave the market...

And going in this late on the netbook market, using Windows 7...

    Tough job.
