Incase anybody wanted to make a mock up for their proposed widget, I've attached the psd I've been working on. I'm using 4px as the radius on the rounded corners for the small icon, and 6 for the large.
Is there some sort of backend we can use for this? If there isn't, this idea won't be possible.
good question. I would say maybe a common restaraunt chain to support thiS WIDget. or even a small or individual bar or restaraunt. love the widget ideas people are comming up with

No, I don't think you understand. We are not going to be able to get any restaurant chain to support the widget, plain and simple. For this to work, they have to be using a system that would allow us to tap into it. Do they? If not, this won't be possible, sadly.
How about a simple POI search widget... it could eventually be used to open a map program but that would not be its primary purpose.
Its purpose would be to simply search a stored POI file and provide info from the file itself and/or additional info from a web connection.
Possible uses:
What was that restaurant we ate in when we visited (any city, zip code, or category) ?
My car broke down in West Jabip. Where is the nearest service center?
... yadda, yadda, yadda

Speaking of Zip Codes... years ago I had a simple JAVA app (B/W, small screen, pre MIDP, pre GPS and MLS) that pulled and showed the zip code of the cell tower that I was currently using.
Like most people I suppose, many of my mobile web searches are in towns that I have never been to before or I am obviously not familiar with. Adding the local zip code to a search provides relevance and certainly speeds things up, particularly if the the town name can be easily misspelled.
A zip code widget based on location would be handy.

ooh.. ooh... ooh. I just thought of another Widget. A smilies search that returns the smiley image [code] you can then paste into your mobile originated personal emails and forum posts.
So what is the process here of taking ideas/design, to development, do I just hunt for a developer who is interested, or do we vote on priority of development?
