Jolouis, I also, would like to be able to select the font because I take off my glasses when I sleep, therefore I cannot read the “Turn Alarm Off” text. Also, when an alarm is activated, there is enough room to add a user defined message box in the top half of the display that says, for instance, “Staff Meeting”.
Is it just me or is there a bug in the sound system? It seems that both the maemo alarm and flipclock have trouble consistently playing mp3's. Many times with the maemo alarm I have woken up late because it failed to go off. The alarm/snooze screen will be showing, but I never heard a noise. With the maemo alarm, I am using the mp3 of the loud bell so I know I couldn't sleep through it.... I just installed the latest version of flipclock yesterday and today the alarm went off but the sound abruptly stopped in the middle of the first song it played. I had it set to use a folder and choose at ransom. Does anyone else have these issues?
a further 2 issues on N900:
1.: there's no way to get back from the settings-screen to the clock-screen. I have to close flipclock via task-manager and restart it.
2.: insomniac mode is working reasonably: after enabling insomniac mode, the display stays turned on but the brightness won't change. unfortunately the insomniac mode is system-wide. even when flipclock is completely closed, the display won't turn off anymore. workaround: you have to go to the system-screen-settings again and set the period of time to lock the screen. however you start (and close) flipclock the next time, this workaround has to be repeated.
A font selection should be included in the settings menu.
Messing with fonts can cause all kinds of strange display issues as font character sizes/etc might not be the same for the layout. The font that's used for the themes was a standard Nokia TTF one that was already on the tablets; if it doesn't have a broad enough character set you can replace it with one that you prefer:
/usr/share/flipClockC/themes/defaultTheme/primaryFont.ttf
/usr/share/flipClockC/themes/defaultNight/primaryFont.ttf
Fonts are theme specific, so you'll need to do both normal and night themes as shown above.

This text will be made larger for final release... It just got slipped to the back burner for now.

Possible, never thought of that as I never thought of using it for more than just a wake up alarm clock, but I'll put this on the todo list...

Are you on a Maemo4 device or N900? On the Maemo 4 platform there shouldn't be any issues, on N900 right now there won't be any working sound period. Spenc3 was working on it over the weekend and has found a bug or two that are related to getting the sound working on the N900, but those might also randomly be affecting sound on Maemo4, so there are a few tweaks to be made still. On the other hand, I have had no problems with MP3s on my N800 and Flip for months now... and I'm still waiting for somebody to send me/link me to one of those "MP3s that just doesn't play properly" in Flip... anytime guys, really I'm still waiting so I can help solve that one...

Drag your finger from the bottom of the screen upwards? Or if you're on the alarm settings screen, from the top of the screen down? Let me know if neither of those work... instruction manual explaining things to come still I know I know...

Wow that's a miracle in itself considering N900/Maemo5 uses a completely different brightness control/configuration than Maemo4 I'm impressed that it does anything at all. Anyways, fixing that is also on the N900 to do list.

I am using maemo 4 and on the n810. The sound abruptly stopped again this morning during the first song so I think this is a different problem than what I originally thought. I will try and run flipclock through the console overnight and see if it outputs any debug info.

I'm pretty sure the standard Nokia font is broad enough, it displays non-latin characters fine in other apps, so I think it's a coding issue. Are you using UTF-8 or is there something that could be affecting this issue with displaying the proper characters?
The screen brightness inhibition system wide and persisted upon uninstalling aswell. Tweaking dimming delay back and forth in display settings resolves the bug. Other than that, seems like a nice app, rough around the edges, but definately worth checking out.

I noticed some interesting stuff this morning. Normally I always set my alarms to go off at 5:33am. For this test I set flipclock to 6:10. Ironically. it still went off at 5:33 and then it went off at 6:10. Both times working perfectly. Clearly this is not right since there is not a way to set more than one alaram per day from the flipclock menu. So I deleted /var/lib/alaram/*queue and all the .flipclock* stuff in ~/.
I am guessing that somehow 2 flipclock instances have been trying to run at the same time at 5:33? Perhaps that could explain why the audio cuts out completely sometimes, either with the maemo alarm or flipclock.
