Actually Nokia got hit with the first smartphone malware (a botnet). Note that it was in Symbian, not Maemo.

Honestly, this is one of my biggest gripes against Apple. They're so anti-freedom that it's disgusting. And once more they've proven that they're not only worse than Microsoft, but that you should have no right or reason to EVER go with any of their products. All they are is overpriced, cheap quality status symbols. Nothing more. I used to respect Apple. Now I hate them.

They can invest time on keeping hackers out, but can't build in what the hackers are putting in that should there in the first place!?

They're quickly helping me make up my mind.

Well this killed my consideration of the iPhone completly (it still had a chance against the n900 but now its 0%). Granted it would be eventually hacked still, but now Apple is openly declaring war besides firmware updates.

Lol, I don't see anything new here..

Apple has always made efforts to close these holes within months of a published exploit in the past. It's more obvious if you compare the jailbreak method for the different gen of iphones. The latest one (3GS) requires apple to generate a hash key based on your iphone's unique ID (ecid) before it accepts any firmware flashed to it.. (which has also been subverted).

Ah wait, I read the article (was in a hurry since I need to go to bed, came back on for a bit). They just closed the hole, I thought they actually added a another physical chip to the 3GS from the sound of the post. Nevermind then!

@Laughing Man: if you somehow end up getting the 3gs, try to get one with OS3.0 preloaded on it.. cause the ones fresh from Apple's production line can't be jailbroken (yet) :P
