    Hi VDVsx,

I think it is great so many people invest so much time and effort in creating apps! Especially if those apps are for free, the creators deserve our respect and gratitude. I only have my N900 for about 3weeks now, but I installed and use at lest 30 apps. I did not know hoever that I can vote in order to help promote apps to become full acnowledged apps. How does that work?

I think you guys should respect and give more value to this effort, but if you guys like to paid for apps fine, the OVI store is coming anyway

As said earlier you can help here, testing the apps in the extras-testing repository, there's more than 70 apps there, waiting for you

    Take a look at

    http://wiki.maemo.org/Extras-testing

It contains all the instructions. The important thing is that this is not just a question of support and goodwill - thumb up an app only of if works/fullfills criteria, thumb down only if you have issues with it (comment obligatory).

I think n900 seems to be the best phone out there. But there is lack of people using maemo 5 ... and im a bit afraid im going to be disapointed about the to small choice of different applications.

Do you think there is to few apps for maemo 5, compared with iphone and android?

How is the supply of applications for symbian?

Hope some one can help me get some knowledge

don't even dare buy the n900, you'll be throwing away money. Buy an android or the iphone if you want apps.

    Thing you should know:

    1. iPhone (and to much lesser extent Android) count the number of applications differently (for us, an ebook reader or a console emulator is one app, for them, every single book, web page or emulated game is a separate app)

    2. The TYPE of apps is different. It's not just X times more or less apps. The apps on Maemo5 are on average much more utility and tech oriented. We are very much on par and maybe even superior when it comes to linux, networking and that sort of stuff, but are vastly outclassed, say, in the department of high quality commercial games.

    3. maemo.org currently has well over 3000 apps in various stages of development/availability. Whether the (on average) 100 you actually use and need are among them depends solely on YOU.

    4. A lot of applications written for MeeGo and the Nokia N9 will be fairly easy to backport for Maemo5

So no easy yes-or-no answer, but that is exactly why some people swear BY the N900 and some swear AT it.

I decided to buy all of the apps that are currently paid apps in the app store.

Zen bound, angry birds level pack, Morpho Quick Panorama Pro. I had previously bought all the map packs for Sygic, as I do a lot of driving in US, Canada and Europe, so I didnīt purchase them again.

Although I donīt expect to play zen bound or angry birds I felt that spending $6 on those, just to get the programmers some bang for their efforts was probably worth it to show that this was at least a somewhat viable ecosphere.
