There's even a live CD for pc's. It's not that hard. And this would mean a lot more people would be able to experience the magic of Maemo. So is there any community group project working on this already? If not, why?
Maemo is owned by Nokia and they aren't likely releasing it to anyone.

Mer on the other hand can be put on any device.

I think that is the problem , It will be hard to compete with Android if Nokia doesnt want other manufacturers to use Maemo

Or GNU Hurd.

In the next Droid review below , Eldar Murtazin says that the n900 is considerably slower, less stable and doesn't offer comparable functionality out of the box compared to the Droid.

http://www.mobile-review.com/review/...stone-en.shtml

"Given that my main phone these days is the Nokia N97, plus I've got the HTC Hero as my secondary phone, I was elated to get the mix of these two devices in the Motorola Milestone. Hero's flexibility and interface speed with a keyboard that tops that of the N97. Surprisingly, the Milestone is a decent phone with great build quality and a dazzling display. The thing that will hold it back a little, though, is its price tag - 400-450 Euro without a contract (set to land on most markets in December).
Those who are looking for a QWERTY-enabled device jam-packed with features and a likable, speedy interface, the Milestone is the way to go. In fact, there aren't many phone like that out there - maybe the Nokia N900, but it's considerably slower, less stable and doesn't offer comparable functionality out of the box. In my opinion, the choice is very clear and Nokia is not what's on my mind. "Milestone" is a very fitting name for this phone - it will make an impact on the market and won't go unnoticed. Those who are into expensive and well-crafted things, should definitely put the Motorola Milestone on their short lists".

He likes even the keyboard of the Droid:"On balance, the Milestone's thumbboard is more than adequate - I can hardly remember a single negative thing about it".
Strange , I think that Eldar is the first who likes the keyboard of the Droid.

So now does the Droid win with hands down.
I wonder if Eldar's opinion is based on that famous pre production n900 review. I cant imagine Android being faster than maemo especially on a less powerful cpu and lower total RAM. If indeed Android is faster then its really a slam on the java bashers on this forum. I am so happy that moto has made a strong comeback. Looks like flailing Nokia will become the new laggard - cant even manage a basic release of n900.

wow. Moto releases two Android devices, only one of which is anything to sing home about, and now they've made a comeback?? I'm rooting for Moto, but they have to deal with HTC, Apple, RIM, SE, and Samsung, and Nokia will be on at&t and TMobile decks in 2010, so they aren't working in a vaccuum. Mindshare isn't market share. Ask Palm. Pre anyone? Pixi? No?

Right, just a quick poll regarding these two devices.

Milestone will support flash 10... hmm
Will the N900 support it as well?

Yeah, Adobe demoed flash 10 on mobile devices on the n900 first. It's coming Q1 of 2010.

I've used a demo version of the Motorola Droid, to get a feel for its keyboard.
I've used a demo version of the Nokia N97, to get a feel for its keyboard.

What I'm about to say depends upon the fidelity of the above two statement to the real life Motorola Milestone and the real life Nokia N900. I understand that that might not be a valid assumption, but, that said:

The Motorola keyboard absolutely sucks posterior orifices. The Motorola keyboard is so bad, that it has completely turned me off from hoping that the Milestone will come to a US GSM carrier.

On the otherhand, I had been worried about the feel of the N97/N900 keyboard. The N810's keyboard was one of the worst I had encountered on a mobile device. Instead, I found the N97 keyboard to be quite comfortable and usable. The feel/ergonomics of it is quite nice. If the N900 turns out to have a similar key-feel to the N97, it's going to be one of the best, for feel/ergonomics, mobile keyboards I've used. I'd still prefer a 5 row keyboard, though.

So. There you go. On N900 vs Milestone, I don't want a milestone at all, and I still have hope for the N900.
