WTF droid getting Adobe Connect? Not N900?

The N900 keyboard is 2.42 light years ahead of the Droid/Milestone's. Looks and usability.

3 row vs 4 row? How is the n900 light years ahead?
And from what jkkmobile.com says, the droid/milestone's keyboard gets better once you get used to it. Good feedback and response.

Four rows takes your fingers one more row away from a touchscreen. So that can be argued either way. On the Droid, the bottom row is essentially Alt, Space, and even 2 blank keys - do you construe that to be a good use of that extra reach for your fingers?

The Droid's keybd is also, in terms of tactility, a flat, featureless expanse - as boring in the flesh as in the pictures. The N900's is a Thinkpad keybd to the Droid's $5 Chicony. Any keybd gets better once your fingers (thumbs, really) develop some muscle memory, but the Droid's isn't about to get better than the N900's, which looks and feels better in person than in pictures.

I was reading some recent reports about the Moto Milestone/Droid and looks like there have been quality control issues and design flaws - e.g. the battery cover falling off. Some of the whinging is because the s/w is a bit raw, so I'd hold off the decision over n900 or Droid/Milestone just for the moment!

The news that the droid has been r00ted is good, not sure if the milestone has been yet, but it can't be far behind! However, I think the n900 is a better device if you want to be able to use it as intended as well as hack about, IME the more you deviate from the mainstream/supported distro the less likely you are to have a stable useable device all the time!

I have very hard time in deciding which phone to pick..

The n900 advantage in clear to me while this is what I thought are the advantage on the milestone:
13.7mm thin
165g weight
capacitive
multi-touch
better battery time
OS future is more known and better application width..

Why in your opinion should one get the n900 and not the milestone?

The biggest think that scared me when looking at the Nokia N900 was the lack of apps and support. Knowing that the phone has yet to sign with T-Mobile in the USA yet and being that this is Maemo's First Smartphone, I was not confident on how many people would actually pick up this EXPENSIVE super phone being that they would have to pay FULL price, no cellular contract hand-outs.

On the other knowing that the power in COMPLETELY Linux OS base I know that their are a bunch of developers who are going to pick this bad boy up and hack the living hell out of it. In addition to the wealth of linux based quality applications I have used while Ubuntu Linux Base OS on my Laptop.


Most of these apps work on the N900 and/or CAN BE EASILY MADE INTO MOBILE ONES.


So the N900 is in stores now and was put on sale just in time to compete with the latest Google Android powered Phone the Motorola Droid for Christmas.

I saw a ton of Verizon / Motorola Droid ads on Television this season but not a single one for the Nokia N900.


So who picked up the most users?

Well according to Flickr its a tie!!!!

Motorola Droid has a total of 38,202 pictures Uploaded to Flickr

So let do the math

Lets start off with the Motorola Droid

423 Daily Pix DIVIDED BY the 108 USERS can amount to 3.916 pictures uploaded per user on average.

Now lets take the Total Number of Pictures on Flickr 38,202 & DIVIDED that by the average # of photos uploaded per user 3.916 and let leaves us with an estimated 9,753 Motorola Droid users who also use flickr.


Wow 9,753 flickr users thats now bad at all.
(I am sure the million dollar ad campaign is paiding off)


Now lets see how the Nokia N900 did

392 N900 PIX / 109 N900 USERS = 3.596 Avarage Pictures Per User

37,123 TOTAL N900 PICTURES / 3.596 APPU it would take to upload those pictures and you get a grand total of 10,323 Nokia N900 users who share their pictures on Flickr.


10,323 that's about 600 more than the Motorola Droid !!!!


With little to no advertising!?!?!?!?


Powered primarily by Online Hype and the desire for a Good Solid (Linux Based) Device. I mean Jesus the phone isn't even on a major network in the US yet and the MOTO DROID is on Verizon the LARGEST Mobile phone company in the entire country while the most users.


Now I know that my Flickr math can not be considered an exact science by far (and if you can find a better source for these exact numbers please be my guest to share it ) but even if the numbers are wrong and the MOTO DROID wins it honestly can't be by that much of a margin. What does this tell us about Maemo and the N900?


When people actually get a chance to see it (and learn about it) they WANT IT and they will go out and get it no matter the cost.

(this also can be used to compare the use of TV Commercial marketing VS online Blogging and Word of Mouth)
