Well I loved that review so much I had to get a napkin to wipe my mouth ( not like I haven't seen every video review or read all the others ) because it was such a delight to hear a positive review for a change and not just one that says great things only to counter balance the the "bad things that they mention over and over in such a tone that unlike this article doesn't give you reason to believe it will get fixed and get better over all in due time.

I think I'll like my fingers now...

edit: and correct me if I'm wrong but was this the first full review done with out one iphone comparison.... lovin it! who is this guy, he must be working for Nokia

The last time I checked GPS does not work in doors. And if my N95 is any reference, it takes about 5-10 minutes to get any sort of GPS signal anyway.

my e90 rings like a bell in about 3-8 seconds to get a fix, and can pin-point me from one side of a building to another.

now the types of buildings would definately be a factor.

this particular building that i tested it with was actaully a sprint building that was in san ramon, ca. and had 3 floors to it, i was on 2nd floor.

The last time you checked, YOUR GPS does not work
indoors. Many GPS do work indoors. The GPS on my
N810 always takes a long time to get a first fix but it
does work indoors at home. At work, it needs to be very close to a window to work. It seems to give higher
priority to power saving than fast fixes. That is OK with
me.

Weird... My n95 takes no longer than 10 seconds, in a moving car

My SiRF Star II chipset GPS doesn't work indoors. My newer MKT chipset GPS does (for some definition of "indoors". It probably doesn't work deep down in the basement.) Likewise, the old one won't lock unless I'm standing still, the new one had no problems locking while moving at 747 speed.

Your GPS is much better than the one used by the US government then since they still haven't figure out how to position their soldiers in urban warfare very accurately using GPS.

Yes, GPS does work by the window (otherwise you wouldn't be able to use it in your car), but that's about it since it needs a direct link with the satellites. Try a basement and see how well it works there, without a-gps of course.

For those who can get a very fast fix, are you sure you guys turned a-gps off? That thing uses data unfortunately.

Another good usage of a magnetometer is when stopped at a red light. Yes, moving a couple of meters will cause the GPS to figure out your orientation. Unfortunately, it would also bring you a ticket if not a T-bone accident. My Garmin mobile gets totally confused sometimes at intersection with the arrow spinning trying to figure out which way I am facing. I'd think it's a bug in the software (since it did it once on the highway as well, like I could do a U-turn in a gridlock), but a real digital compass would certainly help.

I am not saying N900 is a bad device. I am simply saying that GPS, no matter how good, cannot replace a magnetometer.

With a stand alone SIRF Star III receiver I can get fairly accurate GPS locks 2 to 3 meters from a window, in a brick house. Given the lack of sky visible from there, it's apparent that modern GPS receivers can work with degraded signals far better than they used to (the same GPS receiver can get an accurate lock when it's fallen under the driver's seat).

TomTom on my Palm PDA doesn't spin in this situation - as it's a car navigation system it expects me to face in the direction I last moved in. So the display is "frozen" in the right direction when I have to stop.
