So, the making of a good experience for portrait mode is a big and complex task, which may or not be done for Maemo 5.

:Twitter aside. I never got the popularity of texting. You're holding a freakin' phone in your hand pounding out words one letter at a time to be sent to someone else who is also holding a phone in their hand... Duh!

I agree, but is it unreasonable to assume that the task may be distributed among many.
The key things people want are browser support, and messaging support right? Would nokia own the messaging, and a 3rd party could own the browser - e.g. opera or mozilla etc?

Details... the one used on the n97 and 5800 worked well for me, i liked being able to switch to any of the 3 input mechanisms qwerty, t9 or handwriting.

You think so? Nokia could not have been blind to the fact a device with a form factor popularized by the iphone, with a bigger bread basket of functionality, stronger stats than any competitor that it would not cross over from geeks to dorks and mainstream consumers. Look at the early adverts. They were people going to concerts, and sms'ing, using location tools to find friends etc. there was no one doing a 'gotomy pc' or ssh'ing into their server.
They are getting what they asked for. We are getting what we asked for
