kpoman: what makes it even more frustrating is that we weren't hearing about these problems before PR 1.3... Sure, it was slow, but that was OK... Nokia changed something and made things much, much worse.

There's some hope over in this thread. I'm watching closely to see if someone finds a solution... freemangordon is quite the 1337 hacker so he'll probably figure it out.

After the comment you made above,i dicided to download the image file again using the Debian image installer, but still after downloading i got this message from the terminal:

    ERROR! DECOMPRESSION FAILED!
Unable to install Debian 5/6 image with working audio
    Unknown lzma error

Will debian software ever work on my N900?

Arrgh, i can find nowhere a "Debian Image Installer". i did xfer to m SD card an image: http://qole.org/files//debian-m5-v3d.img.ext2.lzma
    but
    ls -l /media/mmc1/
gives an empty line... perhaps this is some kind of permissions problem??

i can find nowhere a "easy-deb-chroot package" on the N900 though i have (i think) installed "easy-chroot" with the app manager... i get no new icons instlled on the N900's desktop...

Not sure what to try now, perhaps i will just bury myself deeper:-(

gheil: If you are using apt-get, you need to install the easy-deb-chroot package, and if you are using the App Manager you must install Easy Debian in order to get the Installer and other icons. The easy-chroot package consists only of scripts, no icons.

    No do this:
    Code:
    apt-get install easy-deb-chroot
Then run the installer in the menu. Choose your SD card and it will extract the image for you.
