I think a full size usb port would be to space consuming and wouldn't look quite right in my opinion not to mention the need for two separate controllers.
I'd rather the one size fits all approach.

General "hardware" problem with usb on n900 is lack of power.
It can be easy solved by adding external-powered usb-hub.

I have both, but I haven't yet tested or googled about instructions yet how to do it.
On the other thread they are working on getting USB OTG host mode to work. Maybe if it is succesfull, there could even be small USB hubs which can be connected as long there is external 5V (500 mA - 3A) PSU.
