    Guys,

Anyone know what image formats are supported, just messing around with some animated GIFs for a friend and it occured to me, animated backgrounds would be cool!

Haven't got the device yet, but I can make some quick test examples if someone can test them for me?

    Hi Dave,
If you want to throw a couple of animated files my way, Mo would be happy to test them out. And if you're thinking what I think you're thinking.... waaay cool!

GIFs don't work on the N900 (at least in the image viewer). I think they might just show a static image if you try. You can open them in a browser and they'll work.

    Hey K,

When I get a sec today I'll send you some. As Laughing Man has said below it looks like it won't work but we might as well have a go

Making some headway with your holiday background too.... shouldn't be long till I have a half decent image

Do send me stuff to test - more than happy.

And great news about the images - I've been playing with the ones on the wallpapers site and mucking aout with the colours and stuff.

These mushroom pictures look nice, very colorful.

    Could be resized.
Here also are some desktop wallpapers you could resize (excluding the Windows 7 and Mac ones).

The only difference between the files that I can find is that the N900's web browser encodes the .desktop files using UTF-8 (unicode text), while the firefox on my laptop uses ASCII text. (btw, the web server sends the files over as text/html)

On linux, you can check it using the 'file' command ('file blahblah.desktop'). Also, diff between the files will show an extra character at the beginning of the N900 file.

I think we may have two bugs here: one in the N900's web browser (encoding of the downloaded files) and the other in the change background utility (will not read utf-8 encoded files - it should be able to read them, right?)
It is not the browser but the Notes app. It even errors out when I try to save the .desktop files. I edited the files using vim and it worked.

    Hi All,

Hope I'm ok to post this here. Had bit of a surge this morning and threw together these two wallpapers. I know they aren't great, my photoshop skills are getting a little better though.

I've uploaded them to the n900wallpapers site, they just need approving.

Any constructive feed back would be appreciated.

Also, the site is looking great now, but when browsing on my N900, it still misses of a bit to the left as someone mentioned previously.

I'll sort out a screenshot if needed.

    Thanks,
    Dex

    what exactly are .desktop-files?
when i click on .desktop to download from the websites, it asks me to save a .htm-file.

    /edit:
ok, just saw that the .htm-file propably is supposed to be named .desktop.
after seeing whats inside, i understand what it does.

i guess all the 4 referenced wallpaper in the .desktop-file have to be in the same folder that the .desktop-file is?
