Hi all!
I was thinking of getting the N900, but I'm not completely sure.
I have read about it here and in some other forums, and it seems like it got a few annoying disadvantages, for example:
-some apps crash a lot
-device crashes and reboots
-poor battery life, hardly stands a day with regular usage
-camera quality isn't very good after all, and video recording frame rate drops to 20fps.
-lots of system bugs, and a general feeling that the device is "unfinished" or wasn't tested enough.
I can't wait for all the fixes and firmware updates, or for the "fixed and imroved N910"
I always loved nokia, and currently I have a Nokia phone S60v3, but Maybe I should better get the iphone 3gs, jailbreak it and have a pretty good phone, without all those problems I mentioned.
I dealt with linux here and there, I have some basic knowledge, but I'm definitely not a unix man and I wouldn't want to be hard working on the N900, digging system files to understand why it crashes etc..well.. maybe a little bit but yet, I'd like to get a working phone.
So, what do you guys think? Did it really fulfill your expectations, or you were disappointed a little?
What should I do?

If you're going for the 3GS, buy the HD2 instead.

IF a nerd bought it - no, he's not disappointed.
IF a normal person bought it thinking it'll be a superintelligent device - yes.

Up to you really, but if you're not into technical work then the N900 isn't for you.

HD2 means Windows, I don't like when things crash..

I'm kinda disappointed, thought the N900 is going to be an "iphone killer", or "the ultimate device" lol, if only it didn't have all those stupid problems...

As far as I know if you jailbreak an iPhone, the new hardware is a tethered jailbreak, which means if your phone gets stuck on a program and needs rebooted, the battery dies, or you turn the phone off, you will need to re-jailbreak it each time. I figure with re-jailbreaking and re-syncing you are going to spend quite a bit of time in front of the computer.

For me the N900 lives up to my expectations, and even if it is a little rough around the edges (which I haven't yet noticed) at least you are not going to be hanging it on your computer just to be able to use it every time you need to reboot it or turn it off. I say go for it- I haven't experienced any of the dead pixels, easily scratched screen, broken mic, random restarts or crappy battery that some people are talking about though.

Also I think some of these posts on these forums need to be taken with a grain of salt. Some people expect these phones to do everything. Just look on any blackberry forum or other big phone forum- some people are so damn picky that it amazes me. "Oh no a little bit of light shows more between key a and key b" or "It doesnt do 40 things at once like my laptop". I mean come on, you can do so much with this and most of the modern phones that it is just amazing- I used to have a beeper that was almost as big as the N900...

Well, from reviews, I haven't heard that the winmo 6.5 crashes that much, seeing as how the N900 reboots itself 300 times a day.

+ it'll get the winmo 7 upgrade (most likely for free)

And you have a beautiful large screen, which looks sexy watching movies on.

I haven't had a reboot yet (granted I've only been playing with it for 30 minutes). But for every complaint of reboots there are several people with devices that do not have reboot problems. Meaning its either device specific (user installed testing or devel applications or something odd happened during an application install) or the device itself is faulty and needs to be replaced.

I bet if you look around you'll find HD2 that are hardware defect related too. It's simply a result of mass manufacturing.

i've yet to see a win mobile-device that did crash.

maemo and the n900 is the only and first mobile device i have heard of crashing.

You might find a few, but it's usually software which can be fixed with a "hotfix". So far the HD2 is the best all-in-one device you can get at the moment, regardless that it has winmo. It's a device that can suit a big amount of people. I don't want to run the N900 down, but it's fact & ever superficial facts state that the N900 is a cigarette box-alike. But everyone has their opinion, innit

My device hasn't rebooted once in the three days that I've been messing around on it just about every free minute I have...

Exactly. Therefore you can't really make a claim that the n900 reboots 300 times a day, otherwise you might as well make that claim about every device that has potential hardware defects out there (and indeed some do which I find rather pointless).
