I've actually been looking for a way to remove the icon backgrounds, but I believe with CSSU you can't.

The theme I am using is 'plego-remix', and the icons are 'awoken-icon-theme'.

There isn't GUI solution for everything, but you can remove icons backgrounds from terminal like this:

mv /etc/hildon/theme/images/ApplicationShortcutApplet.png /etc/hildon/theme/images/ApplicationShortcutApplet.png.backup
mv /etc/hildon/theme/images/ApplicationShortcutAppletPressed.png /etc/hildon/theme/images/ApplicationShortcutAppletPressed.png.backup

Did some updates to my desktop

When I was removing the background of the menu bar I noticed that the application switcher button looks awful when you click it (no rounded corners). I fixed it like this, if someone else is having the same problem:

mv /etc/hildon/theme/images/wmLeftButtonAttachedPressed.png /etc/hildon/theme/images/wmLeftButtonAttachedPressed_.png
cp /etc/hildon/theme/images/wmLeftButtonEndPressed.png /etc/hildon/theme/images/wmLeftButtonAttachedPressed.png
