Any ideas how long it should take to fully charge using an AC3x charger. I left mine charging for about 8-9 hours and the orange light was still blinking though it was almost full. With the charger supplied by Nokia with the phone it took about 3 hours. Is this to be expected? Thanks
yeah im having the same problem. i left mine to charge overnight, woke up and it was still flashing orange... im not using the charge it came with because im in australia and i ordered the phone from overseas

This could be because the charger you're using fails to short the data lines (as recently required by USB standards), which the N900 requires to recognise it as being a dedicated charger.
Great, it happened again.. it will not charge or start up anymore. Didn't have any problems the last few months but now it's dead again.
I'm not letting it run out of power by purpose.. but when it happens, it should just charge. What do you do? Never let it run out of juice or just charge it when it's dead. If last, did you have problems getting it in charge mode?
OK some info about Li battery tech. It does NOT like Deep(i.e. empty and beyond empty) discharge cycles. This adversley affects it's lifetime as well as the electronics it has for charge control.
So it's best to charge Li batteries often. Just top-up charges. I.e. you leave home at 0600 and come to work at 0800 with battery 20% used up since you were listening to music or something. Plug it in and let it charge up. Disconnect after it hits green. Then you might not do anything with the device or you might. Maybe before heading back home plug it in an hour or so before to let it top-up. When you get home top-it up again etc...
That's the normal Li battery cycle and is what it's meant for.
Every so often(maybe every 6 months or so or once per month) do a deep discharge cycle since that will recalibrate the sensors so it will more properly report the charge state. Also it is good to do a few deep discharge cycles at the start of use to calibrate the sensors to again better report on the battery state.
The steps you describe are mandatory for my phone. I charge it every night (6 to 8 hours), go to work at 6am.. around 3pm it's almost empty (20% maybe) so I plug it in again, go home and in the evening it's 50% full... when it's doing nothing that night and I don't charge it, it's empty when I wake up. It's very harse that if I forget to charge it one night... it's completly dead.
Most of the applications are removed now... but it's draining the battery like a mad man.
So do you think the battery is dead or the battery is to empty to let the phone charge the battery? If last, I could use an external charger (if it exists) so I won't have to go back to the store every time I forget to charge it.
Brought it back to the store, they also said that Nokia released a statement, telling them there is a connector problem... I should have it back in 2 to 3 weeks so let's hope that's the problem and they can fix it.
Funny quote, I just told them the problem about not charging and I can't start the phone anymore.. this is their answer:
"We need to send it back to Nokia, make sure you do a backup because they re-install the OS"
They were kind enough to lend me a battery so I did a backup at the store :-P
Only good side of it all, I have an excuse to use my Nokia 7650 for the next couple of weeks... brings back memories!
I got my N900 two days ago. It was charging fine the first night with the included wall charger. Today it won't charge with the wall charger but will charge with the USB cable to computer.
Anyone else had this problem? Before I call to get the wall charger replaced I thought I'd ask. I bought this phone through Amazon. Anyone have to deal with some warranty issue like this with Amazon?

I do have the exact same problem!
I bought it off ebay, unopened box,
it charged the first time, and now, only USB to PC charges it.
I am really pissed off , except the fact that I don't think I can return it to ebay seller... you are luckier... to deal with amazon.
Let me know your solution, I am planning to contact to NOKIA.
There certainly is not a cable issue,
I tried 5v charger to USB - PC cable, didn't charge either, at this point, I am guessing another issue...
